The UFC is a temperamental thing. They can get 85k for a card this month then if they booked Brock/Jones or Conor/Khabib for next month that card would do well over a million. Even when things were booming in 2016 most of the none Conor/Ronda/200 cards were getting like 200-300k. It really just works on a card by card basis. They dont have the handful of big names to drive buyrates atm but that can change very quickly. Just look back to 2014 everything was doom and gloom cause buyrates were shitty.......then Conor and Ronda blew up.
 
Would the card have pulled better numbers with the Main Event as Machida vs Belfort?

Sometimes I wonder about shit like this.

Obviously it shouldn't matter but I really think it does. WMMA is such a chore.
 
This is what people are talking about when they say UFC/MMA is dying. It about the declining viewership and general interest in mma not about how much money WME is milking out of those fans that remain.

Except it is true, because Ronda was a huge bitch and everything to attract her fans, GSP is a draw because of Canada, and Silva wasn't every really that big of a draw just back then the UFC brand name had much more drawing power than it currently does. These days the UFC's drawing power based on their name is very poor and unless you talk shit and basically promote yourself like McGregor you aren't going to get promotion from the UFC.

Anyway, this could be like the Monday Night Wars between WWE and WCW back in the mid 90s. Bellator and UFC could be good for the big picture. Competition is best for the fans and for the fighters who can jump ship if they are being paid rubbish money.
Even better, ACB, KSW and Fight Nights Global could soon become competition for UFC.
 
Wouldn’t say they are dying but maybe switch it up. And nothing against wmma but those title fights should be co main at most or headlining fight nights. Ufc dropped the ballerina that card everyone including them probably knew it would flop. Plus too much competition that weekend. I think all these money fights are hurting the numbers as well because it ties up divisions and puts belts on hold then the confusion of who the champ is when you have two or more champs in each weightclass. Now they want us to pay to watch two guys who have a losing record and are old, cm punk vs mike Jackson.

The Rousey hype era is long over. And these watered down cards will continue to flounder.

Its bad business period. Fans were somewhat into Holm after she beat Honda but once she lost the thrill was gone. While Nunes is a good fighter nobody cares and that isnt going to change. Add in you put together a title fight with an undermatched opponent and then make it the headline you get a pathetic 85,000 PPV buys that's almost unbelievable considering the UFC has had PPV's that have done almost 20 times that in buys.

The WME needs to start rethinking its entire promotion model. They need to get back to 5 fights all with top 5 fighters on a PPV from 5 different weight classes per event. And to not headline PPV's with WMMA. They have been beating a dead horse since Rousey's fall and it they are proving the definition of insanity to be true.

Silva got over 400k because during his streak the UFC brand name sold more than it does now by default.
 
Bellator looked better on paper for it being a free event. No one cared about 224 to be honest. WMMA headlining cards are dead in the UFC now. I’ll be surprised if they ever put on another WMMA headlining PPV unless Ronda comes back.

Bellator had some pretty exciting fights though. Cheick Kongo scored a nasty KO when his last few fights have been snoozers. Also, young prospect Aaron Pico got another 1st round finish with his now signature left hook. Who here wasn’t laughing their ass off too when Paul Daley was booing Fitch during their fight??
