This topic is all about the bands that are focused on crushing riffs, slow to mid tempo mainly, and they are heavy and catchy at the same time. The genre and subgenre doesn't matter as long as they meet the criteria. And I'll go with some examples that come to my mind right know for a starter:

Bolt Thrower - http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Bolt_Thrower/234

Autopsy - http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Autopsy/285

Electric Wizard - http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Electric_Wizard/407

Crowbar - http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Crowbar/235

Chevelle - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevelle_(band)

Filter - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filter_(band)

Candlemass - http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Candlemass/34

Helmet - http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Helmet/5636

Meshuggah - http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Meshuggah/21

Gojira - http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Gojira/18351

This is my band. I usually end up writing around riffs

Some of Jerry Cantrell's riffs are like that for me, especially the main riff of Rain When I Die

One of his most underrated songs is "A Looking in View" off Black Gives Way to Blue. That shit hits like a goddamn train everytime I listen to it, and structurally is a little more riff heavy than some of their other stuff. "Rooster," another favorite of mine, kind of focuses on one single chord progression throughout the whole song. I like that about the song. But on "Looking in View," there are a few different progressions in the song. It's dope

inreference to Alice. I think having that second guitar makes a huge difference too

Yeah thats got some killer riffs too. The bridge riff of Acid Bubble too really kicks ass too for me. Plus the intro and verse riffs of Hellbound off Degradation Trip.

You can't really debate the power of DuVall and Cantrell. This song has the spirit of AIC while bringing that freshness. DuVall and Cantrell sound great together and I love the guitar work too. This whole song is great because it's so heavy, the kick drum and bass really carry that shit and the guitar shit is creepy

Cantrell is definitely one of my favorite songwriters in the sense that he has awesome technical ability but is super tasteful and serves the song. Everything he does serves the song.

Entombed qualifies. The drummer for this album was such a good fit. He knew to blow his wad at the right time: all the time.

Yeah, nice choice, the so called death n roll style - Gorefest, Dismember, Carcass, etc. also have killer stuff in that style.

You guys mentioned some cool bands that I also like a lot, keep it going. :)

I don't know what's the general opinion about Korn here, but they also deserve a mention here. They produce some banging riffs.

Street Cleaner by God Flesh is a crazy album and crazy band.

Helmet, but they have already been mentioned so I will add Quicksand.

Can't have a thread like this without mentioning Black Sabbath.

Rage Against the Machine.

Kyuss (and stoner rock in general)
