As a doctor I think Nunes must have had some psychological or other physical issue than sinusitis.
First of all, chronic sinusitis is by definition a long term illness that you have been dealing with for a certain lenght of time, generally you need up to 3-6 months before you can actually define sinusitis as chronic. This meaning that she must have known about this condition already and not just discover it the day before the fight. Second, sinusitis presents itself with specific and clear symptoms which any dumb doctor should recognize: facial and forehead pain, headache, nasal obstruction and purulent discharge, fever may be present during an acute phase.
Usually patients who suffer from chronic sinusitis are not persistently ill but rather suffer from frequent reacutizations, which may be very painful and often need a course of antibiotics.
The strange thing about the Nunes case is that her symptoms (at least to our knowledge) were absolutely aspecific and the physical examination showed no signs of a sinus infection. It would be interesting to see her sinus CT scan and I wonder if she ever had one done considering that it is a fundamental tool in sinusitis diagnosis especially if chronic.
Btw I do believe there must have been something going on (psychological or physical) but I can hardly believe it was chronic sinusitis just for the way everything played out-->basically fine up to the weigh ins and then BOOM, "wooops, can't fight I have chronic sinusitis!".
Hope she takes care of her health and comes back stronger than ever but I'm not buying this sinusitis excuse
