No one is discussing a defense of the second amendment, which isn't needed, because the right to defend yourself isn't up for debate.
What we're discussing is how to stop mass shootings.
If you want to stop mass shootings, the answer is more guns in the hands of good people.
But that's not what prisons do. Prisons heavily restrict access to firearms. No one is allowed to have them, except the prison guards. And even then, they lock up the dangerous weapons. Arm the guards, disarm everyone else.
