With applications now open for the new ‘World Boxing Super Series’ inaugural season (which will feature cruiserweights and super middleweights), the response from fighters has reportedly been much better than anticipated.

Promoter Kalle Sauerland, who is putting on this event alongside Richard Schaefer, says that the organizers are going to have a difficult selection process as the tournament will only feature 8 fighters from the two divisions.

“World champions, contenders and even some surprise catchweight contestants have already applied,” said Kalle Sauerland, Comosa's Head of Boxing. “The interest in the World Boxing Super Series has surpassed even our wildest expectations. As each weight class can only feature eight stars, the Board will have some tough decisions to make.”

Applications will continue to be accepted through May 26 for all champions and top-15 rated contenders, before the Comosa board ultimately contracts with 16 fighters in total, with a few back-ups to ensure the tournament doesn’t get held up.

“The response from the enrollment period has been overwhelming and competition is hot for places in the two weight classes for Season 1,” said Richard Schaefer, Comosa's Chairman of the Americas.

The tournament is expected to officially announce its participants in early July when they’ll hold a television show in Monaco to promote the event. The four top seeded fighters in both divisions will then have the opportunity to select their quarterfinal opponents from the four remaining unseeded fighters. The opening bouts are expected to begin this September, finishing up in a May 2018 finals.

Im interested in seeing who all applied.

Khan applied.
They'll hold a poll on whether to accept him.
We will vote him in.
They will decline.

Who the fuck is at 168?

DeGale? Callum? Dirrell bros?

Makes sense a lot of fighters applied for this tournament. Everyone is guaranteed at least one big payday.
