I know MMA math is usually worthless, but I can't help to use it in this instance. Conor is the champ because he humiliated Alvarez.

Alvarez was supposed to be the best LW, but Diaz did incomparably better against Conor than he did.

Was Conor's win over Alvarez an accurate reflection of how much better he is than the other LW fighters? Or was Alvarez just a champ that was destined to be on top for a very short time?

Then there's Khabib, and I have no idea how he fits into the equation.

Is Conor just waaaay better than all the LW fighters not named Nate Diaz?

We will likely never know because Conor never defends his belts. He will never be considered one of the greats for this reason. I think Tony and Khabib would be very tough fights for him. His LW belt only means that he can beat Eddie.

Some guys are just other guys' kryptonite, always been that way

Some movements and some body types just counter other movement patterns and body types, it's not necessarily a skill thing always

It's the UFC's job to make us understand how the LW roster compares to each other.

Sadly, they forgot that the job or philosophy of the organisation is/was to establish who are the best fighters in the world and just gift out title-shots to non-contenders.

I will sum it up for you

Eddie Alvarez was a fluke champion. Never deserved the shot anyway, but caught RDA with that hook. He isn't good, Ferguson and Khabib are the two best LW in the world, both are better than Conor.

Nate is good but not that much, he has nothing on Ferg and The Bib. It's just John Kavanagh overhyping Nate to make it sound that Conor lost to a great guy. Spoilers: Nate has been dominated by the likes of Benson Henderson and Josh Thompson

Don't think I ever saw anyone earnestly claim Alvarez was the best LW at any point.

    Eddie's a great fighter.

But most people never thought he was the best LW.

Conor is incredible but has some holes (some of which are at least partially patched now). Fighters with holes like that sometimes have losses that little sense...Arlovski for example screws up almost every MMA comparison because of that.

Depends on the meaning of 'good'. He is a good fighter already for being on the ufc, but he isn't top 5 material without a doubt. I also don't think he is top 10 material either.

In my eyes he was gifted two split decisions and got a title shot, which he won but I still think it was a fluke, Michael Bisping level

I don't respect Conor McGregor as a man but I can admit his fighting skills are unmatched and god-like.

Alvarez is very hittable and Conor has exceptional power

Diaz has even more exceptional durability and stubbornness (plus skill obviously)

So you just can't use mma math for these three
