Anthony Pettis's team says Jose Aldo's leg kicks are a non-issue. Big mistake??

when Jose chooses to actually utilize them they are, but most of the time he is trying to box... last time he really beat someone with them was Faber

Antyony Pettis has taken leg kicks from Pat Barry when they used to train. I honestly believe Pettis when he says he isn't concerned about Aldo leg kicks. Pettis knows how to check kicks or stay out of range. I think Aldo could capture the LW belt but stylistically, I think Pettis is his toughest matchup. I'm rooting for Aldo but I don't know if he will win this one if he keeps it standing. Pettis has really good cardio and I've never seen him slow down. This fight has standup war written all over it bu I think there are going to be more takedowns in this fight than people expect.

PUO these fucking kids in the Heavies... its like they don't watch the fights but just read about them from other Heavies Shertards.

Fucking unreal.

its amusing at this point. id say 3/4 of sherdog cant even grasp what pettis does. the shit is unreal.

and your measuring stick is what? cerrone and lauzon? lmao get the fuck outta here. pettis is going to get finished.

i heard benson henderson is pretty good. are you familiar with him?

if the cerrone/lauzon performances didnt convince you of pettis' caliber i would suggest a consult with an eye specialists.

If anybody can get Pettis ready for a striker like Aldo its Duke

i remember that match being pretty close before that ninja kick. maybe i need to go back and watch it because i dont remember him killing him before that

Damn why couldnt this fight be late may or early june. Yes aldo's leg kicks are the best in MMA. But Aldo taking Pettis to the ground and subbing him is far fetched. Pettis is a great striker and has one of the best kick boxing coaches in the UFC. Theres no way they meant his leg kicks are not to worry. They meant it as we will be prepared. Im not so sure about the weight cut on Pettis behalf that we find out on fight night. One thing i kept reading Aldo has never faced anyone as skilled as Pettis well neither has Pettis. This fight has kick boxing match written all over it and if its a PPV i predict a big number of buys.

We win the fans win by getting a real super fight which we've been asking for years now.

good fight but pettis was winning by a decent margin. no one gave it to bendo and pettis was handling the grappling and the striking.

Maybe not but Aldo can take him down at will and should be able to submit him easily.

Totes dude, I mean Aldo does have that one submission against a winless fighter 20 fights ago, and Pettis has never been subbed before, so it should be a formality that Aldo taps him.

Some of the delusions from Aldo fans are amazing. First Pettis has to watch out not to get head kick knocked out like Aldo's first MMA opponent who was winless, now Pettis is going to get subbed easily like Aldo's 3rd opponent who was also winless. Aldo is a great fighter, but he might be the most overrated fighter in the UFC when it comes to individual skills like kicks and subs. He hasn't shown the best kicks in the UFC when he hasn't finished any of 12 fighters in Zuffa that way, and when he hasn't subbed an opponent with any wins isn't likely going to sub a #1 contender who has never succumbed via that method before. The amount of myth circulating Aldo is ridiculous.

lol Seriously. He will take him down at will and submit him easily? Even if he does get taken down, Pettis is just fine off of his back.

i dont get it

it seems that as soon as a match up is talked about on sherdog, the fight is signed just one day after

so what about this one, is it going to happen ? it is already scheduled ? why would Pettis fight aldo and not Hendo?

He thinks Pettis can block every kick with his shin and hurt Aldo's own leg in the process, Duke says he knows the setups, the dangers, the mistakes.

And Duke does know everything about leg kicks. But he also knows that in the heat of a fight, Pettis can and possibly will get leg kicked after he gets punched in the face and have to move backwards. Many k-1 and MT fighters had success with leg kicks and their opponents always knew they would get leg kicked, so if Duke thinks Pettis is safe....

That being said, Aldo will look to block Pettis' kicks and outbox him all day long with head movement and faints, he'll use the other stuff if he feels confortable with it, just like the front kick to Edgar's face that basically stole a round for him.

Pettis has a good coaching staff, Duke is a monster when it comes to striking, but Aldo has a great and accomplished team, with many well-rounded fighters.

All that Duke Rufus is saying is that Pettis knows how to block leg kicks and he's continuing that training for his next fight.

What's he supposed to say? That's Aldo's leg-kicks are so deadly and fast that he'd beat everyone in the world in a striking match by using them? In MMA, there is a counter to everything, and Duke's guy knows that counter and is training that counter, and Duke is confident in his guy using something that they've spent a lot of time working on.

They forget that Aldo uses 8 limbs to strike... Too much focus on that leg kick is gonna get Pettis "Cub Swanson-ed"

you forget that pettis is as capable as aldo is.

Pettis would lose to Edgar if they fought, ironically.

Can't wait for this fight though.

You're right, but he's soft compared to Aldo's killer instincts..

hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhaa sure thing bud.
