“I love myself. A lot of guys don’t think about that. They want to get into these battles, and just wars, and I’m not about that life. I’ll be honest – I was never a fighter. Fighting was natural to me in a way. because I was so athletic; I caught on to everything quick. I was never meant to fight. I was meant to do something else, something greater in life. It was just time for me to move on, and I wanted to be able to have kids and be able to talk to them and play around with them by the time I’m 45.

“I know a lot of these guys already have kids that are in the UFC and MMA, and they get knocked silly. My man Diego Sanchez has taken some hits, bro, and he’s dropping. I remember watching him on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ and he was killing it. Now, these guys are younger, bigger, and faster, stronger … and I don’t want to go out like that. If those guys want to do that to themselves, go ahead. That’s your life, that’s your body, that’s your future. But for me, I’m destined to do something greater.”

Man did DC do a number on Rumble. He made Rumble go from [IMG][IMG][IMG] to a guy who thinks he was never a fighter. Have you ever seen someone get there soul broken like this before ?

Poor Rumble. He broke his promise on fighting Jones to all his friends and family.

Don't really care what people think of Rumble. I'm glad he had such a good career, made good money, and can do something else.

Always was a fan and always will be.

He's an elite fighter that has incomplete skills to become champion. Is there any reason to believe than Bones wouldn't beat him also?

Rumble is doing the right thing here. Being a business man in the cannabis industry is more profitable and healthier than prize fighting.

My respect level just went up for Rumble. As a "just bleed" fan it absolutely sucks that such a wrecking machine is moving on.

But fighting is an incredibly self-destructive, and inherently negative vocation. Millions of dollars can't offset the decrease in quality of life that permanent brain damage inflicts on a person.

Jones would most likely break him down but god damn... give me 1 round of a fresh Jones vs Johnson and I'd be happy.

For someone that doesn't see himself as a true fighter. He had one hell of a career.

He could've tried Heavyweight. Rumble vs Stipe would've been awesome.

Soul broken? Hardly. The guy has other priorities and doesn't want his body destroyed from fighting. Sounds like his soul is just fine, just isn't invested in turning into the next Diego Sanchez.

HE SAID HE WANTS TO AVOID BRAIN DAMAGE

And you suggest he goes and mixes it in with HEAVYWEIGHT FIGHTERS?

    BRAVO!

there is no fighter with a complete arsenal of skills.
some of them are almost there but the perfect fighter in a contest like mma cannot exist.

Jones, for example, has big holes in his arm striking that only his reach (and his fingers) could compensate.

But i agree 100% qith your last line: leaving a combat sports in which you're being successful before leaving too much brain cells on the canvas is something that needs guts and wisdom.
That said, i'd have preferred another career than the MJ farmer tbh.

Can't recall Rumble ever getting hit particularly hard. Doubt he has any brain woes ahead.

Good for him, though. He left a great record, with some top names, and now he's bunning zoots and cashing checks.

He's right. Too many guys hold on for too long. He's made his money and now that he found something he thinks is worth investing in, he's moving on. Smart.

Ironic since he caused potential brain damage to so many of his victims.

Jones vs OSP fight is a reason enough for me to believe that no, Jones wouldn't beat him also. Actually there is more reason for thinking that Jones would lose.

People hating in Rumble are dicks. He's had a great career.. 2 title shots, came up short. its amazing what he accomplished after moving up in weight. He doesn't really have anywhere to go except inevitably downhill. Make money and leave. Good for him
