Anime and Manga v39

Bleach was the last anime I watched. Been over a decade since I've watched anime. Is there anything that's even good anymore? I can't imagine it being better than the 90's and 00's which is when I was into anime. What is a good show that is from this decade?

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
91 days
Overlord
Psycho Pass
Gangsta.
Beelzebub
One Punch Man

So many of these are shit.

Jojo's, One punch man are all a must watch though.

Here are some of my favourites.

Death Note
Hunter x Hunter 1999 and 2011
Yu Yu Hakasho
Code Geass
One outs
Ping Pong the Animation
Rainbow
Full metal Alchemist Brotherhood
Beck (dubbed was great)
Parasyte
Ippo
Attack on Titan

Honestly plenty more Im missing out. I think these are the pinnacle of the art form. Im missing 20+ shows right now but I truly believe these above are a 9+ type shows.

I can't recommend FMA Brotherhood enough. Anyone who gets put off by the "silliness" of big-eyed asian cartoons have to watch series with heavy themes. Psycho Pass and Death Note are up there as well.

I disagree. But to each his own.

I honestly thought Overlord was hot garbage, psycho pass bored me with each passing episode, gangsta was okay but I would not really recommend it to someone as one of their first animes. 91 days was forgettable etc. I can understand liking them but those anime's seem like a love it or hate it type deal.

Its just that I wouldnt recommend your choices for first or second time viewers outside of One punch man and JoJo's. I loved Devilman Crybaby but I would never recommend it as a first or second choice.

The thing is people usually start watching anime after Death Note or another big hitter, and after going through the good anime, theyre left wanting more but are left with garbage.

Also as a fan of Junji Ito and his manga's, the anime adaption was goddamn disgraceful. How can it be so lifeless and grey when its based on some of the best works in japanese horror?
It just felt so damn crappy compared to the source material, its like the creators phoned it in with the art, scene compositions, and the timing and pace just felt off.
The manga's usually instilled tension and anticipation with each page turned but in the anime adaption, scenes felt tacked on together with no regard for building up tension and anticipation. Hot goddamn garbage.

Yeah some can be hit or miss. But the dude sounds like he watched more than one or two anime. Of course he would probably like the staples like H x H, FMA, etc.

Was just recommending stuff from this decade that was pretty good (or at the very least rated ok) or smaller niche genres like mafia or rpg settings. He/she may end up liking one of the listed. And funny enough some people end up hating Jojo off the bat for whatever reason.

Also, Ito's animated adaptations are terrible, I agree. Sucks because I love his drawing style and panel placement. Wtf were they thinking? Were they even trying?

Who can hate Jojo's? Theyre not my people!

No they were trying to cash in on some well known mangaka's work. Hope he works on Death Stranding game now that Silent hill is cancelled.

If I were to have one guy's drawing ability he'd be on the shortlist, some others would be Miura (funnily enough havent read Berserk just love the art) and Inoue (Slam Dunk and Vagabond).

Bro, read Berserk...do it now. You won't regret it.

Saw Violet Evergarden on Netflix, wasn't bad, nothing ground breaking but a decent story with a likable protagonist. Enjoyable , slice of life ish with some action and drama.

I have read the first couple chapters but I dont consider anything read unless I finish it. I just dont like having to wait years for 2-3 chapters, so I dont feel like investing time. Guts is an awesome character, too bad,

Im reading ippo and after 1k chapters with no end in sight, Ill probably be 100 before it finishes.

Latest Ippo chapter.

Hayami is a past character from the rookie king tournament is still boxing. He was a prodigy in his amateur days but now with set backs and a glass jaw has a record of 8-11.

He's either there to give Ippo motivation to continue boxing or he is about to get violently ktfo next chapter to slap the reader in the face.

Me thinks the latter. Hopefully he wins and Ippo grows a pair. Being a second is interesting and all but it just doesn't feel right.

Let's go back to the world. Sendo, Ricardo, Volg, and Miyata are waiting.

I'm reading Nozoki Ana

Pretty good so far
That one was a guilty pleasure. It's basically a softcore porno but the artwork is nice (in ways beyond the nudity and boinking) and it's surprising how emotionally impactful it is.

Probably gonna KTFO, and Ippo will get the fire again due to not wanting to live vicariously through others and feeling disappointed when they fail. He'll probably wanna do it for "them" then have it done for him.

Yeah I had just finished with GANTZ

So I was looking for something as lewd as that was and I happened to find Nozoki Ana

Check out Monster Musume if you haven't. It's basically the Fetish Fuel trope incarnate. Maybe Nana to Kaoru as well, which lacks the (overt) nudity and sex but is still extremely sexual.

EDIT: Thinking about it, you might also like Murcielago. It's really dark, but it has some fantastic black-humor.
