Who knows, but I don’t think money is a problem for Netflix, Bright alone cost $100 million dollars.
Is mma declining in interest? I mean around the world? My impression is that more kids are training and more people are viewing especially in newer markets. Not trying to contradict what you're saying. Just wondering if anyone has any fairly good data on any of this stuff.
That brings up a really interesting point, one that maybe isn't discussed enough. On the one hand, HBO learned that Game of Thrones originally did most well on pirate sites. Younger people would get it free, but then when their parents heard about it they ordered HBO and started watching it. I'm pretty neutral on free streaming. I don't think it hurts the industries that complain about it as much as they may sometimes argue when they take a super hard line stance against it. Information has a tendency to want to get free and shared by people. Who is to say I'm not allowed to buy a book and loan it to a friend? On the other hand I'm comfortable continuing to pay my monthly fee for fights pass because I think it's good value and want mma to thrive. Some of the cable companies seem to be pricing themselves out of the market when you consider how many people have cut the cord. There's no right or wrong answer to any of this but it can be frustrating if for example you're a huge fan of something but can't afford $100 / month on it. You can also talk it up with your friends and for example get together and order an event and split the cost. Or in the case of supporting music artists, go see them live which is where they make their real money. Of course I'm talking in broad generalities. It's definitely something that all parties are considering going forward, including consumers whether or not they discuss it openly or even think on it very much.
Thank you for verification
I was tipped off due to my thread about AMZ trying to get FP (as well as YT), then did some investigation
My guess is the library would be included, but not live events
There was never a chance UFC would not be profitable in 2018.
Without a PPV sold they are a $175-200m a year profit company
With new TV deals, even more-so
But you are deff right that the future will be interesting. A lot of pieces are in play buddy.
I can't get antennas to work at my house (way up in the woods) and I don't wanna pay outrageous amounts for satellite. So until I got amazon prime I wasn't able to watch any NFL. I hope amazon does more nfl and mma.
MMA as a sport is growing, UFC as a product is what i meant. Markets like latin america are not that popular with UFC events like europe or USA. We must consider that other promotions are having a nice success like Rizin, KSW, M-1, ACB MMA etc. the current product is getting stale and it's showing in the numbers of the recent cards, obviously those were events with little star power. but the thing here is WME is making money out of a stale product with no interest of improving it to get more cash out of it.
You know Amazon's business model. They care more about revenue than profits. They are still selling shit cheap and don't make as much as people think they do. They want the market share first. They want customers. They could be charging more but don't.
Disney is locked and loaded to take on netflix. They got a huge library. All Disney stuff obviously. Star Wars Franchises. Other franchises. The entire library of 20th century FOX and ESPN. lol. They got a lot.
Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. I still watch UFC but also find other promotions exciting each in their own way.
Let me know when they’re running an alpha test
Nice that Meltzer credited me with the breaking story in his weekly newsletter.
Comes at a good time, as I was just offered a paid position to help an upstart website on the MMA end (waiting on contract)
