First Teaser Poster for ALIEN: COVENANT; New May 19, 2017 Release Date

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant find what they believe to be an uncharted paradise. What the crew discover is a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the film stars Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Guy Pearce, returning in their roles from Prometheus, with newcomers Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir and Billy Crudup. Alien: Covenant is scheduled to be released on May 19, 2017.

Guy Pearce Returning to Play Peter Weyland for ALIEN: COVENANT

Guy-Pearce-Alien-Covenant-Dragonlord.jpg

AVP Galaxy.net is reporting that Prometheus actor Guy Pearce is returning for Alien: Covenant as Peter Weyland, head of Weyland Industries. Obviously the format of Pearce's appearance will be different, as Weyland (the old man who stowed away aboard thePrometheus) was old, feeble and killed during the doomed expedition to the Engineers’ outpost.

According to AVPG.net, the moment of Weyland's appearance occurs at the beginning of Alien: Covenant, in which we witness the "birth" of Michael Fassbender's android character, David. The scene evolves into David playing music (Richard Wagner’s "Entrance of the Gods into Valhalla") while he and Weyland discuss the nature of gods, man, creation and the results of that creation.

It is indicated that this philosophical discussion will provide the framework for David's actions in Alien: Covenant, while helping to explain Weyland's motivation for launching the Prometheus mission in the first place.

ALIEN: COVENANT Xenomorph is Called Neomorph and More Details Revealed

0alien-c.jpg

In a recent interview with Mark Goodier on BBC Radio 2, Michael Fassbender accidently let slip the name Neomorph while referring to the Alien from the original film.

AvPGalaxy.net can exclusively confirm that Neomorph is actually the name that the crew working on Alien: Covenant used for a brand new variation of the Alien encountered in the film.

The site also got some additional details about the Neomorphs. These Aliens are the result of the local ecosystem being mutated by the accelerant/black goo. Over time, pods started to grow on the trees and the ground, and release a spore when disturbed.

These spores infect several members of the Covenant crew by entering the body through the ear and nostrils. The spores cause the growth of the Neomorphs inside the infected hosts – something that is reminiscent of William Gibson’s first draft of Alien 3. One of the Neomorphs bursts from the back of one of the infected crew, a “backburster”. The other crewmember’s Neomorph erupts through their throat.

The births are preceded by the eruption of two small dorsal spikes. These spikes and a pointed skull are also used to break out of an embryonic sack (similar to the Deacon in Prometheus). The Neomorph resembles some of the older concept art of the proto-Aliens from Prometheus (see above), specifically the white colouration, with a pointed head and two dorsal spines. Upon birth, the Neomorphs move on all fours similar to the Bambi-burster from Alien 3.

When they mature, they grow significantly larger and walk on their back legs. They were more animal-like in behaviour with fang-like teeth. Unlike the earlier Prometheus concepts, the Neomorphs also have tails. In addition, the adult Neomorphs also developed a slightly translucent appearance (harkening back to unused concepts from Alien and Prometheus) as previously rumored.

Contrary to earlier reports, Alien: Covenant will not feature the return of any creatures from Prometheus aside from the Engineer and the Neomorph’s passing resemblance to the Deacon. It’s possible that the Trilobite was mistaken for the immature Neomorph.

Earlier drafts of Prometheus, when it was a more clear-cut Alien prequel, featured the white, slightly translucent variant of the Alien as a form of proto-Alien that was discovered alongside the traditional Aliens.

Noomi Rapace Joins Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT

Noomi-Rapace-Alien-Covenant-062016-Dragonlord.jpg

Even though Noomi Rapace emerged from Prometheus as one of the few survivors and the one who seemed most to want to follow the adventure forward with Michael Fassbender’s character, it was long reported she would not be back to reprise her role as Elizabeth Shaw in Ridley Scott’s next installment Alien: Covenant. Maybe that has changed.

Deadline's sources say Rapace is in Australia and on the set to shoot weeks worth of scenes in Scott’s film, which brings back Fassbender’s robot character and has a cast that includes Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride and Demian Bichir. Info is on lockdown, so we’ll have to wait for the film to be released August 4, 2017, by Fox to see how it all worked out.

Danny McBride Reveals He Plays the Ship's Pilot in ALIEN: COVENANT

Alien-Covenant-Set-McBride-Scott-Dragonlord.jpg

Production is already underway for Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien: Covenant and one of the most curious additions to the cast is none other than Eastbound & Down star Danny McBride. Speaking with Rolling Stone, he revealed a little more about his role.

“I’m the pilot of the spaceship Covenant, which is a colonization ship, searching for a planet where we might start life anew.”

Fans will also be pleased to know that, as McBride reveals, there will be plenty of practical effects on the new film.

“Most of the stuff is practical effects: when you’re running from an alien it’s really a dude in an alien suit coming after you! The sets are incredible and you’re in them: We go through some inclement weather at one point on the spaceship and this whole gigantic set is on a gimbal, shaking up and down. You don’t have to use your imagination.”

Major Spoilers for Katherine Waterston's Character in ALIEN: COVENANT

Alien-Covenant-First-Look-Katherine-Waterston-2-Dragonlord.jpg

[Major Spoilers Ahead] Up until today, all we knew about Katherine Waterston's role in Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel, which is titled Alien: Covenant, is that she playing a character named 'Daniels' and is a crew member on Covenant, a colony ship.

Last month, 20th Century Fox released an official image of Waterston as Daniels, showing her with short, dark hair and wearing a comfortable, gray tank top. It reminded fans of Ellen Ripley's (Sigourney Weaver) appearance from the original 1979 film, Alien. Well, there's a good reason for that.

"Waterston will be playing Ellen Ripley’s mother in Alien: Covenant, which is an amazing twist and true to Scott’s promise that the post-Prometheus prequels will eventually lead right up to the first Alien movie," sources close to film and actress told The Playlist. "But it should be noted that Waterston isn’t the lead of the movie, and it’s an ensemble piece like Prometheus."

[Update: The Playlist has since removed the spoiler from the article at the request of 20th Century Fox.]

Billy Crudup in Talks to Join Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT

Billy-Crudup-Alien-Covenant-022516b-Dragonlord.jpg

The cast of Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant continues to grow, with Deadline reporting on Thursday afternoon that veteran actor Billy Crudup is in “advance negotiations” for a key part in the prequel/sequel. No further details on the role are yet available, as much of the film remains a closely guarded secret.

Crudup recently appeared in 2015’s critically acclaimed Spotlight, and is known for his roles in Almost Famous, Big Fish, Public Enemies and for playing Dr. Manhattan in 2009’s Watchmen adaptation. If the casting becomes official, he’ll be a newcomer to the Alien franchise, which started with 1979’s original, also directed by Ridley Scott.

Alien: Covenant is the sequel to 2012’s Prometheus, and is planned as the second film in a trilogy of prequels, set before the original Alien movies. It’s said to take place 10 years after Prometheus. Alien: Covenant has a current release date of Oct. 6, 2017.

Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo and Callie Hernandez have signed on to a cast that already features Micahel Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichir and Danny McBride.

Plot details are mostly under wraps for what is the second of the planned three pics at 20th Century Fox acting as a prequel trilogy to Scott’s Alien movies. Only Fassbender is confirmed to reprise his character from 2012’s Prometheus; it remains unclear whether Noomi Rapace will return.

Smollett plays Jamal Lyon on Fox’s hit primetime soap Empire which is in the middle of its second season.

Seimetz (Upstream Color) is co-creator of Starz’s upcoming The Girlfriend Experience and wrote and directed half of the episodes in Season 1 in addition to her supporting role.

Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Danny McBride Joins Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT

Danny-McBride-Alien-Covenant-021016-Dragonlord.jpg

Following a hilarious run as Kenny Powers on HBO’s Eastbound & Down, Danny McBride is preparing to move from comedy to sci-fi, as he’s in early discussions to co-star in Ridley Scott‘s big-budget blockbuster Alien: Covenant, TheWrap has learned.

The film is a major coup for McBride, as not only will it allow him to show off more of his range as a performer, but he’ll also have a chance to work with Scott. Like the director, McBride is a true cinephile, and the duo are said to have hit it off while discussing old movies.

McBride is bringing his new HBO series Vice Principals to SXSW, and his distinctive voice will be heard in two of Sony’s animated movies — Angry Birds and Sausage Party. He also has the indies Don Verdean and The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter on the horizon.

Ridley Scott Says Noomi Rapace Won't Return for ALIEN: COVENANT

Prometheus-Shaw-0327-Dragonlord.jpg

Back in November, Ridley Scott met with members of the Australian press to talk about Alien: Covenant which he would be shooting in the country. He teased that Michael Fassbender would have dual roles in the film, and said that Noomi Rapace would be back as well, albeit in a "minor role." However, as the picture gears up to start shooting this year, it seems there's no more room for the actress.

Chatting with Baz Bamigboye, when asked if Rapace would be returning, Scott confirmed she wouldn't be, adding, "We’re still casting the main roles."

It's probably a fair bet that the story for Alien: Covenant just has place for no place for Elizabeth Shaw, and likely picks up many years after the events of Prometheus. Focusing as it does on the crew of a new colony ship, Covenant, who stumble across David (Fassbender).

Katherine Waterston is the only other confirmed cast member for Alien: Covenant, though as Scott says, there's much more news to come. Alien: Covenant opens on October 6, 2017.

Ridley Scott Aiming for a Hard R-rating for ALIEN: COVENANT

Ridley-Scott-Alien-Covenant-011416-Dragonlord.jpg

"I think I'm going to do a pretty hard R," director Ridley Scott said of the Prometheus sequel, Alien: Covenant, after The Martian won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy on Sunday night.

Scott and his crew are currently prepping Alien: Covenant at Fox Studios Australia (Sydney) and he plans to begin filming it in two months. While every film in the Alien franchise except for one (Paul W.S. Anderson’s Alien vs. Predator) have been Rated R, Scott plans to ratchet up the scares for the next one. And he thinks he can go even further than the chestbursting scene from the original 1979 film, which is still considered to be one of the scariest movie moments of all time.

"I always remember walking down the edge in Saint Louis when we were previewing [Alien]," Scott told reporters during the Golden Globes backstage interview. "I couldn’t sit through the film one more time. I walked down the edge into the kitchen scene when John Hurt started to bring up his breakfast. That moment, I realized how pretty scary the film was… I felt a sense of responsibility that I had gone too far because it was extreme. I’m going to try and do that again this year, but much worse."

ALIEN: COVENANT Will Be Set 10 Years After the Events of PROMETHEUS

Alien-Covenant-Logo-111615-Dragonlord.jpg

While promoting the Blu-ray/DVD release of The Martian, costume designer Janty Yates shared a piece of information pertaining to her next collaboration with director Ridley Scott. She told Collider that Alien: Covenant is set "10 years in the future beyond Prometheus."

The flash-forward will probably go a long way to explaining why Noomi Rapace’s Dr. Elizabeth Shaw is being relegated to just a brief appearance in the sequel. Last time we saw her, she and a body-less David (Michael Fassbender) were flying away in an alien spacecraft headed to the Engineer's homeworld.

Prometheus was set in the year 2093, 28 years before the events that took place in the original 1979 film that starred Sigourney Weaver. Now that the sequel will shorten that gap to 18 years.

Alien: Covenant synopsis: Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Katherine Waterston Cast as the Lead in Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT

Katherine-Waterston-Alien-Covenant-Dragonlord.jpg

Katherine Waterston, who co-starred in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice, is set to star in Alien: Covenant, the Ridley Scott-directed sequel to his Prometheus. In what will be the biggest role of her career to date, Waterston has been cast as the lead, Daniels.

Scott, of course, had put the 20th Century Fox project on hold to do The Martian, which is in the thick of the awards-season race. Covenant is his next pic. Specific plot details are being closely guarded, but it is believed to follow the crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet, who discover what they believe is an uncharted paradise. But in fact it’s a dark, dangerous world whose the only inhabitant is David (Michael Fassbender), the “synthetic” and survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant is believed to be the first in a conceived trilogy of new films that will link the events of Prometheus with the Scott-directed 1979 classic Alien.

Waterston is next up in the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them with Eddie Redmayne. She also co-starred in Steve Jobs.

ALIEN: COVENANT Will Feature Facehuggers, Chestbusters and Xenomorphs

Ridley-Scott-Alien-Covenant-121115-Dragonlord.jpg

Way back in November 2014, when Alien: Covenant was still called Prometheus 2, director Ridley Scott teased that his sci-fi thriller will have a brand new alien. He added that the "baby alien" in 2012's Prometheus was very close to the original creature in his 1979 classic Alien.

Another rumor surfaced last month that claimed the android David (Michael Fassbender) will create two different Xenomorph aliens in this sequel. While speaking with The Wrap, Ridley Scott said that this new expedition will feature an "evolving creature" created by the Engineers, along with some of the familiar Xenomorphs from the original classic.

"They're going to go to the planet where the engineers came from, and comes across the evolving creature that they had made. Why did they make it? Why would they make such a terrifying beast? It felt bio-mechanoid, it felt like a weapon. And so the movie will explain that, and reintroduce the alien back into it. There was always this discussion: Is Alien, the character, the beast, played out or not? We'll have them all: egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy. I think maybe we can go another round or two."

Noomi Rapace, who's character Elizabeth Shaw was the only human survivor in Prometheus, is coming back for Alien: Covenant, but only for a cameo appearance. Production is scheduled to start early next year, with 20th Century Fox already issuing an October 6, 2017 release date.

Ridley Scott Talks ALIEN: COVENANT, Two More PROMETHEUS Sequels

Ridley-Scott-Alien-Covenant-112715-Dragonlord.jpg

Ridley Scott confirmed that he is planning another two Prometheus sequels to follow Alien: Covenant before the Prometheus storyline meets up with the original 1979 Alien. Alien: Covenant and the following two films will be origin stories, answering the "very basic questions posed in Alien: why the alien, who might have made it and where did it come from?" Scott revealed at a press conference in Sydney where he is starting pre-production on Covenant, the first sequel to Prometheus.

"Its a very complex story. Its an evolution of what I first did with Prometheus 1," he said of the new film, which tells the story of the crew of the colony ship Covenant, who discover what they think is an uncharted paradise but is actually a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

"Prometheus 1 was borne out of my frustration that on Alien 1 in 1979 - I only did one as I don't normally do sequels. I was amazed that in the 3 that followed that no-one asked the question 'why the Alien, who made it and why?' Very basic questions. So I came up with the notion of Prometheus 1, which starts to indicate who might have made it and where it came from," Scott said.

"So I’m now going to the next one, which is the next evolution directly connected with the first one, which was this Shaw, when she replaced Michael Fassbender in two pieces and we’ll kind of pick it up there and it will evolve. When that’s finished there’ll be another one and then another one which will gradually drive into the back entrance of the film in 1979," the British director revealed.

"So in other words, why was this space jockey there and why did he have an Alien inside him? And those questions will be answered," he added. Other casting besides Fassbender hasn’t been confirmed although Scott did say that Prometheus 1 star Noomi Rapace will only appear briefly in Covenant.

Milburn's Idiotic Behavior in PROMETHEUS Finally Explained

Prometheus-Milburn-Fifield-2-Dragonlord.jpg

Ridley Scott's Prometheus was one of the most anticipated films in 2012 but turned out to be a huge disappointment thanks largely in part to its annoying and obnoxious characters. We now take a look at Milburn (Rafe Spall), one of the said moronic characters in the film, and try to explain some of his inexplicable dumb actions, like petting the space cobra and other foolish behaviors. There's only one logical explanation why a well-educated biologist would act in such a idiotic manner. Milburn is clearly a homosexual. Below is a list of irrefutable proof to support this theory:

1. Milburn immediately zeroes in on Fifield (Sean Harris) at the mess hall, sits down at his table, and introduces himself with a creepy schoolgirl-crush smile. Milburn doesn't even bother introducing himself to another crew member directly seating besides Fifield. This anonymous crew member looked to be decently dressed and civilized, all good qualities for a potential friend. But nooooo, Milburn is more drawn to the mohawked heavily-tattooed serial killer-looking Fifield. Go figure. (Who in Weyland Industries screens these assholes??)

2. At the debriefing, Fifield belittles Shaw's star map and Milburn is the only one grinning like an idiot. And when Fifield puts down Shaw's Engineer theory and Milburn laughed like it's the greatest fucking joke he has ever heard in his life.

3. When Fifield has a nervous breakdown inside the alien building and asks who wants to join him back to the ship, Milburn happily says yes. [In Bane's voice] But of course. Milburn, abandoning his natural scientific curiosity, hopes to get some quality time with his BFF.

Fifield >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> potentially the greatest scientific discovery of mankind ever

4. Fifield and Milburn get lost inside the alien structure. I'm pretty sure Milburn mislead them and intentionally got themselves lost so that he could spend an uninterrupted romantic evening with Fifield.

5. When Fifield freaks out at seeing the cobra alien life form, Milburn takes this opportunity to show Fifield that he is boyfriend material by petting the snake against his better judgment.

6. Before the cobra enters Milburn's mouth, if you listen really carefully, you can hear Milburn's faint death cry, "I love you, Fifield..."

PROMETHEUS Sequel Now Titled ALIEN: COVENANT; Logo and Synopsis Released

Alien-Covenant-Logo-111615-Dragonlord.jpg

20th Century Fox has confirmed the new title for Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel will be Alien: Covenant and set an October 6, 2017 release date for the picture. In addition to the release date and logo, Fox also released an official synopsis, which features one glaring omission.

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in Alien with Alien: Covenant, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus -- and connects directly to Scott's 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

So where's Noomi Rapace? Prometheus ended with Rapace and Michael Fassbender's Elizabeth and David as the sole survivors of the Prometheus, with Scott saying the sequel would find the two on a road trip of sorts to find the home world of the Engineers. Rapace's name is nowhere to be found, however, and the synopsis cites David as the "sole inhabitant" of the planet. It would appear that the actress is not returning for the follow-up after all.

Scott has been talking a lot about how Alien: Covenant will connect to Alien, and the synopsis confirms this is the first of two sequels that will bring the franchise around to Alien by "coming in the back end" and revealing who created the aliens. Meanwhile, Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 has been put on indefinite hold.

Rumor: Details on New Monsters for ALIEN: PARADISE LOST

Prometheus-Ship-111515-Dragonlord.jpg

Scified has an update on what the new monsters in Alien: Paradise Lost will look like and where they come from. However, the site cautions to take this with a grain of salt - especially since word has recently come up that John Logan has been hired on to revise the film's script. The information they share is current as of fall, 2015, when the initial draft of the film was completed and greenlit.

The movie will have 2 monsters, one is new and both are different yet similar to the Xeno DNA. The new monster is a new event, so it's nothing created before the Events of the end of the First movie.... it's created by an event in the movie... and this new monster is going to be based off of the Original Concept that Alien drew influence from, and this idea is something they had planned with Spaights' Ultramorph and so Gigers Necomonicon 4 is the starting point. This Monster will be transparent like a Jelly Fish to a degree.... and it's hinted that David plays a part in its creation.

The movie won't be going the route of an Alien movie, just we will see more clues and things that we can relate and make connection to the Xeno DNA and Bio-Mechanics of the Engineers. The movie will loosely touch up on themes that can connect to the Prometheus Mythos and the Bible but more in respect to the Paradise Lost version of events but again loosely.

They won't be going a full blown Ancient Aliens in detail on us, just we can make subtle links to themes, such as Rebellion, Order of Creation (that has multiple layers that does not start with the Engineers and does not end with David). Stealing of Forbiden Knowledge and Fire and how playing God and going against God always has dire consequences.

Note, the source claims one of the monsters is new, yet the other is not. This could suggest the Deacon continues to play a role in the sequel to a degree. However, this new monster will be created after the events of Prometheus and possibly even with the help of David? Could David pull another fast one on someone else and impregnate someone/something else the way he did Hollaway? This certainly seems like the direction our source is hinting at.

ALIEN: PARADISE LOST Will Feature a New Group of Travelers

ao6fps.jpg

While on the press tour for The Martian, Ridley Scott has been speaking at length about his plans for the Prometheus follow-up, titled Alien: Paradise Lost. We know that Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are back as David and Elizabeth, respectively, and we know that the story will find them setting a course for the Engineers' home world, with the aim of finding out where they came from.

And now, thanks to yet another new interview with Scott, we know that Fassbender and Rapace won't be alone. Speaking with Gregory Ellwood, Scott confirmed that filming begins in March and revealed that sequel will feature a new group of travelers...at least at first:

"It's going to be it's own separate thing because they are going to the planet of the Engineers and they are going to see what happened there. It was a disaster. And they will be in that alien craft that takes them there, but with a new group that's incoming, a new group of travelers in the beginning of the first act."

Scott also briefly addressed the reported second sequel to Prometheus, as the filmmaker has recently been talking about how Alien: Paradise Lost and its follow-up will eventually connect with the proper Alien franchise, just in a roundabout way. Speaking with Ellwood, he's confident that film will also happen: "There is an evolution to this one so if we can get something down I don't not see how we go [forward without a third]."

PROMETHEUS Sequel Will Be Titled ALIEN: PARADISE LOST

Prometheus-Xenomorph-092415-Dragonlord.jpg

Ridley Scott has spoken about how the Prometheus movie series is intended to link up with the original Alien mythology at some point in the future, but it appears that the title of the series will reflect the connection far earlier than expected.

During an interview to promote The Martian, Scott told the website Hey U Guys that the title of the second Prometheus movie will actually not contain the word Prometheus at all (and any negative connotations that audiences may bring along with them). "Actually, really, it's going to be called Alien: Paradise Lost," the director said when asked about the sequel to the 2012 feature. "Prometheus 2 is not going to be, it's now going to be Alien: Paradise Lost."

Don't expect to be able to find any clues about the sequel's plot from its new title, however. "You know the poem?" Scott asks the interviewer, referencing John Milton's 17th century work about the Biblical fall of man. "It sounds intellectual, but there's a similarity to it, and that's where it stops."

In a later interview with the same outlet, Scott said that the new title came about "because we're going to why and how and when the beast was invented. We'll go back in to the back door of the very first Alien [movie] I did 30 years ago." Scott himself confirmed that the sequel will indeed explore the reasoning behind the alien creatures' "evil biology" and what caused them to create such monsters.

Ridley Scott Wants to Make Three More PROMETHEUS Films Before Tying Up With ALIEN

Ridley-Scott-Prometheus-Set-092315b-Dragonlord.jpg

Ridley Scott has promised that Prometheus 2, which begins production on February 2016, will answer many of the questions left open in the 2012 film. However, Scott has told German website FilmFutter (via bloody-disgusting) that he won't show how the Prometheus franchise connects to Alien in the next film. He's saving that reveal for ... Prometheus 4?!

"It won't be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise," explained Scott. "The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself. I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction."

Jon Spaihts' original script for Prometheus was a direct prequel to Alien. In it, David (Michael Fassbender) the android comes across and revives the Space Jockey (also referred to as The Pilot) who was last seen as a fossil in the 1979 film. We would've seen how The Pilot ended up dead on LV-426 from a Chestburster, but that storyline was jettisoned during extensive rewrites. Instead, Scott chose to have David and the rest of the crew end up on a whole other moon and come upon the Last Engineer.

From the creator of one of the most beloved horror sci-fi films of all time comes ... this. Discover the biggest mysteries of the summer - like why they made it. As the DVD/Blu-ray release of Prometheus heads to stores this coming Tuesday, October 9, you'll probably benefit from a proper primer to at least contextualize the confusion that may hit if you're watching the film for the fist time.

The latest honest trailer from the folks at Screen Junkies takes Ridley Scott's prequel-ish Alien film, lays it on an operating table, and cuts out a squid baby made from glaring inconsistencies faster than Ellen Ripley can tell them to "get away from it, you bitch." The comments in this trailer are as harsh as they are hilarious. It's only three and a half minutes, but it's worth every second of your time. Do not watch this Honest Trailer if you haven't seen the movie yet.

Damon Lindelof Explains Why He is Not Writing PROMETHEUS 2

Damon-Lindelof-Prometheus-Dragonlord-1.jpg

A few months ago it was reported screenwriter Damon Lindelof might not have the time to pen the Prometheus sequel for director Ridley Scott. Speaking to Collider last week at a Bad Robot event for the Star Trek sequel, Lindelof confirmed that he wasn't doing it.

Lindelof explained that after Prometheus got released, (Scott and Lindelof) had a meeting "where we started talking again about where this journey would go." Before Scott could ask him to write the script, he said he couldn't do it due to other commitments. Here's part of what he said:

"The thing about Prometheus was it was a rewrite. Jon Spaihts wrote a script and I rewrote it. And still it was a year of my life that I spent on Prometheus, kind of all in. The idea of building a sequel to it - from the ground up this time - with Ridley is tremendously exciting. But at the same time, I was like, 'Well that's probably going to be two years of my life.' I can't do what J.J. [Abrams] does. I don't have the capability. I'm usually very single-minded creatively. I can only be working on one thing at a time.

So I said to him, 'I really don't think I could start working on this movie until I do this other stuff. And I don't know when the other stuff is going to be done.' And he was like, “Well, okay, it's not like I asked you anyways.' He and I are on excellent terms and it was a dream come true to work with him. But much to the delight of all the fanboys, I don't see myself being involved in Prometheus-er."

Read Jon Spaiht's Original Screenplay for PROMETHEUS

Jon-Spaihts-Prometheus-Dragonlord-1.jpg

Prometheus definitely seems to be one of those films that people either love or hate, but even those who praise the quasi Alien prequel can't deny that there were a few slightly frustrating plot holes. Some of these were answered by the deleted scenes contained within the DVD and Blu-ray releases, while the others will surely be answered in the highly anticipated sequel.

Jon Spaihts wrote an almost direct prequel to Ridley Scott's Alien before Lost's Damon Lindelof came in and took the film in a direction which didn't include such well-known franchise favourites as xenomorphs or face-huggers. If you're interested in finding out what might have been if Ridley had decided to move ahead with Spaihts' screenplay, then you will most definitely want to have a read of this (courtesy of CBM). Spaihts himself has verified the script's authenticity.

Dragonlord's Review of PROMETHEUS
(Spoilers)

Bottom Line: Taut and engrossing, Prometheus is ultimately a spellbinding mess filled with frustratingly idiotic characters, reinforcing the criticism that Ridley Scott is a stylist first and a storyteller last.

Prometheus-Fassbender-Dragonlord-1.jpg

Director Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped defined and leaves more questions to the audience than answers to the whole Alien mythology. The imagery and cinematography are breathtakingly beautiful and haunting. The ship itself and all its technological doohickeys are marvelous to watch. Noomi Rapace as the idealistic heroine and Michael Fassbender as the eerily charming android are both outstanding.

Being a prequel, the film felt constraint and does not truly break out of its rehashed narrative structure until the very end when they introduce a whole new world of possibilities of where the film could be headed next. Aside from the stupid character behaviors and plot irregularities, the script from Damon Lindelof is frustrating because it leaves a lot of questions unanswered and assumes they will get a chance to explain them in a sequel. And I am simply astounded by how much the film was spoiled in the very first teaser trailer.

Taut and engrossing, Prometheus is ultimately a spellbinding mess, reinforcing the criticism that Ridley Scott is a stylist first and a storyteller last. While the film touches on themes of creation, humanity, death, and parenthood, it never says anything interesting or profound. Overall, it's a frustratingly decent sci-fi horror flick ruined by dumb characters.

Rating: 6/10

Below are more of my thoughts and gripes about the film [Spoilers]:

Ancient civilizations drew star maps to the location, which is now known as LV-223. What was the point? The moon planet was sort of a military base where the Engineers were cooking up some nasty stuff. Did they want humans to be drawn there as sort of an experiment? It will take mankind thousands of years to achieve the technology to reach there. It's kind of hard to swallow that the Engineers were willing to wait for thousands of years for their master plan of infecting some curious humans. I guess we all just have to wait for the sequel for these questions to be answered.

After waking up from 2 years of hypersleep, the Prometheus crew is given a debriefing on their mission. The scene is a homage to Aliens, but it's laughable to think that most of the crew and scientists don't know what they signed up for.

We also are introduced to Fifield (Sean Harris), with his red mohawk haircut and tattooed head, just screams 'guy likely to crack up in space and murder everyone in their sleep.' For a trillion dollar project, couldn't the Weyland Corporation screen someone else who doesn't look and act like a homicidal killer? Lo and behold, Fifield freaks out immediately when they see the decapitated body of an Engineer and demands to go back to the ship. Aside from being a world-renown geologist and the PUPS expert which mapped the temple, he and biologist Milburn (Rafe Spall) still manage to get lost while having a big head start from the rest of the crew.

Milburn was spooked enough to follow Fifield but when they encounter a cobra-like alien organism, his first instinct was to pet it?? Unbelievable. Where does the Corporation get these morons?? Case in point, back at the Prometheus ship, the medical staff finds a perfectly preserved Engineer head and what do they do next? They proceed to experiment with it without proper contamination protocols.

Another super annoying character is Charlie, played by Tom Hardy's long lost twin brother, Logan Marshall-Green. He does a lot of idiotic behavior like taking off his helmet inside the hive or getting depressed when he finds out there's no live aliens on the site despite the fact that they just made the greatest discovery known to man.

My favorite scene is the cesarean operation Shaw performed on herself in the med pod. The intensity and determination of Shaw reminded me a whole lot of Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley. Unfortunately they don't properly explain how Shaw can walk, let alone run and jump, after a cesarean section with only staples holding her gut together.

During the 3rd act, they reveal a pointless plot twist that Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) is on board the ship but nothing of fruition really comes out of it. He wakes up, goes to see an Engineer and dies. Big deal. The hush-hush secrecy was unnecessary since Peter could easily say he's going with them to meet these space gods and no one would think anything of it. Besides, he is the one funding the expedition, he can do what he fucking wants.

Another pointless plot was killing off Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron). After highlighting her frantic escape from the ship and into the escape pod, she gets squished like a bug shortly when the alien ship crashes. I liked Vickers because she's one of the more sensible crew members in Prometheus. I can forgive the laughable scene where she runs away in a forward line instead of sideways from the crashing ship since I'll just assume she couldn't properly make out which way the ship was falling in her panicked state.

It's funny how David's severed head was still in the same position before the alien ship took off and after it crashes.

In the end, Shaw and David flies out to the Engineers homeworld and the idea excited me because the story finally breaks out of the plot constraints of being a copycat prequel. Have to admit, part of me wanted Shaw to answer, "So I can kill those sons of bitches!" when David asked why does she want to go to their homeworld.

And before departing LV-223, Shaw leaves a warning broadcast that they were wrong and the only thing here was death. Um, that's good and all, but she could have been more specific with her message, like "DO NOT TOUCH THE BLACK GOO. IT WILL KILL OR MUTATE WHATEVER TOUCHES IT INTO KILLING SUPER ZOMBIES. DO NOT HAVE SEX EITHER OR YOU WILL HAVE A GIANT SQUID MONSTER BABY. LASTLY, THE ENGINEERS ARE GROUCHY ASSHOLES WHO WILL KILL YOU ON SIGHT."

Super stoked that they are making another movie after all the questions left from Prometheus, which I loved. Pissed that its going to take another two years to come out.

This will be Zookeeper Gabe's favorite installment of the series, if I know him.

Haven't they destroyed the Alien franchise enough already? there hasn't been a good Alien movie since Aliens (Alien II).

I don't like the idea that humans and xenomorphs were engineered by some other super species. I think it would be better for the lore if xenomorphs were just a species that evolved on another planet... keep it simple like that.

I always thought the Prometheus characters were highly flawed, stupid and odd because they're the types of people to take a hybernation trip into deep space in the name of science with people they dont even know. They're all weird to me... what no friends, girlfriends, family or love of life beyond science??

There's an actual trip like this being planned to Mars and I cant help but assume the crew are academics and yet supremely stupid to sign up for such a trip.
