Don't agree with this at all. Sure, Mares's style isn't flashy or pretty and he's more of an aggressive, dirty workman, but at the same time, close or not, he still beat lots of elite names while at 118, 122 and to a lesser extent 126. And that's really all that matters. That makes him a good fighter.Keep in mind, Mares was never a good fighter. So he was someone whose career was basically made through the right promotion. He wasn't talented or skilled, he was just a hard worker. All of his biggest wins were close, tough fights. He never blew out any top opponents. Unless you wanna count Ponce De Leon, but Ponce was on the end of the his career.
