Well, he won the ESPY for Best Fighter after getting finished by mediocre Nate Diaz, so why not?

Closest is eagle leap Khabib and that's not enough. Cejudo and Max should get honorable mentions but one fight in a year is not enough.

I mean it was DC's year.

Reclaimed/defended LHW gold.
Won HW gold.
Defended HW gold.

And all fights were finishes. Stipe and Lewis are still ranked 1 and 2. Oezdemir dropped to 6 after losing to Smith but was top 5.

Gold in 2 divisions against some of the best competition in each. That's a hell of a year.

The only thing that could tarnish it is if Gus can't fight and Jon fight's DC at a catchweight and wins. Though if that were to happen and DC were to win...
