is so astonishing after all these years. I understand you have to worry about kicks, knees, etc unlike in boxing but damn this shit is just bad. That is one aspect of MMA striking that needs to evolve.

Totally! It's about who can land first or who has the strongest chin. Gordon got slept standing against the cage just like Smith did Shogun. Damn!

Yeah even the supposedly "best fighters" in MMA still have a long ways to go in head movement and footwork .

You're not wrong, but god damn that was a good fight.

Stipe has a background in boxing though but he probably made a point to move his head in this fight cos the danger was just too great. I can't remember a fight of his where he displayed this kind of head movement.

Can we all just enjoy great fights & stop trying to be couch coaches

Some guys use it to full effect, and some guys have a go forward,Offense is the best defense style. So SHUT YOUR FACE. This isnt boxing.

It's because it's exhausting as fuck to do that for long periods combined with grappling.

it's getting better

the last 5 years have made some massive improvements

but yeah, it's still really bad.

Especially the head movement component..virtually non existent.

Not enough MMA fighters working with actual legitimate pro boxing coaches. They learning boxing from their kickboxing / martial arts coach.

You can’t dip your head like you do in boxing , it’s totally different .
You can apply it very similarly to as In boxing, except with respect to kicks and knees. It's obviously a different element but It's not that different.

Too much rolling in MMA. Slipping to outside is usually much safer and burns less energy. Not a lot MMA folks use slipping effectively. Boxing in MMA is waayyy behind the times but until a boxer shows any TDD they should all stfu.
