Ricardo Arona was one of the best BJJ fighters ever in MMA and he also had great takedowns, was good at avoiding damage standing and had really good low kicks. Another thread got me thinking about the fact that there hasn't been another fighter like Arona at the highest level in MMA since he's left. So what do you guys think? Why hasn't there been a great BJJ fighter with really good low kicks and wrestling since?

Jacare is the closest to what Arona was but he focuses more on punches while standing and doesn't throw many low kicks.

There is, I assume he'd just rather be surfing than fighting.

You're asking for a super specific type of fighter

Does it even work that way?

I always figured Paulo Filho was gonna to enact the next evolution of Arona's game, but that didn't pan out so well.

Aronas dont grow on trees man. They are forged in the fires of Mount Rickson, and can only be destroyed by being cast back into the fires from whence they came.

Jacare threw a lot of leg kicks before he switched boxing coaches
Like back in strikeforce

Grapplers fall in love with hands later on, money probably has something to do with it...

There will be when Arona come back and rules LHW. Arona for champ 2019.

Arona had the god awful chin up stance though

Standard bi-monthly Arona thread. Always enjoyable

Tibau is probably the closest "BJJ wrestler" to Arona, sans the leg kicks. However, people forget that Arona's good leg kicks were somewhat nullified by his really bad boxing and other flaws. He lost 3 of his last 4 fights in Pride, while still in his prime late 20s.

The flames of Sokoudjou burned bright.

At least people aren't talking about Arona comebacks any more. But hey, he's only a year older than Cormier...maybe he can do it!!!

No it doesnt.
If you start knocking people out in training of course it will work it's way into your fights. Also some grapplers get old and cant take people down like they used to like rampage, hendo, fedor etc
