We won't see elite athletes in MMA for 50 years, no freak athletes for 500 years

It took 150 years for the world's most popular and played sport to unearth Messi and Ronaldo. In 150 years, despite billions of players and MILLIONS of pros only a few thousand have been world class, less than 100 elite, and only 3 super elite / freaks (Messi, Maradona, Ronaldo)

So let's get real, in a young fringe sport with limited participants like MMA we are watching trained pros and nothing more. What we consider gifted in MMA is really just one pro defeating another with more training knowledge and experience.

MMA's most talented (Jon Jones and Conor) are the equivalent of Footballs Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard. Remarkable but not anywhere close to truly elite. Statistically speaking we can't expect to see a *wow* calibre of athlete for another 50 years, and a good 500 to a thousand years before we see an MMA Messi.

Ya seem to really know what ya´re talkin´ about... or are from Argentina, right, mate?

The individual disciplines have been around for at least that long. Pankration was in ancient Rome or Greece or something.

We have elite wrestlers, strikers, and submission specialists, so it's a little different than other sports. Albeit you do have a point as someone will need to have the best overall package.

1000 years?

MMA will be dead in 100 years. It will have been dead for 990 years in 1000 years time.

Here's the thing about MMA. I don't think it's dying but it's on the edge of a real issue where the UFC acts like it has a monopoly but for the group of guys with name recognition they can probably make more money with endorsements outside the premier organization.

Also, in the world of combat sports.. until MMA fighters get to walk home with $20million per fight for the top end guys like they do in boxing it'll always be the second choice for a lot of people that want to break into combat sports.

Combat sports will probably be dead or at least near complete irrelevancy in 100 years, sadly.

Fighting isn’t P.C let’s put it to bed now before someone gets offended!

MMA will be banned by the left in the future then we will have World War 3 and then after losing hard, Western men will get their balls back and will start doing all the things we used to do. Word.

Pretending you have a clue about football is cute.
Pele is the best there's ever been, not Maradona, Messi or Ronaldo. The first football international was in 1872 Pele first played in the World Cup in 1958, 86 years later.

What about Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Best, Moore, Platini, Eusabio, Puskas, Charlton, Zico..... there have been plenty in the tier above Gerrard and Rooney.

Jones, sure. But the fact that you have Conor there leads me to believe that you are on some sort of drug
He's not on drugs, just this:

apparently, you don't understand the difference between skill and athleticism. There are many guys in soccer who have been and are more athletic than Ronaldo, Messi, Maradonna etc.

TS you're a joke
