Same account that broke Diaz 2, Eddie, Floyd & Khabib fights is reporting:
They’re two of the most iconic fighters of their generation. Conor McGregor became the first man to hold titles in two divisions consecutively when he won the featherweight and lightweight championships (even if the UFC kind of forced that narrative). Meanwhile, Donald Cerrone has the most wins and finishes in the history of the promotion.
Both men are destined to become future Hall-of-Famers. While Cerrone is probably never going to win a UFC title, he’s probably going to be remembered with more fondness than McGregor by the hardcore MMA fanbase. Meanwhile, McGregor burst onto the scene like a rocket, becoming the UFC’s first ever bonafide mainstream star.
Now if reports in Ireland are to be believed – led by the mainstream tabloid the Irish Mirror – the two men could be set to fight in a totally unexpected match-up that would actually make a lot of sense for both men.
