Did the ref just get the tap?

Is this the first time a ref caused a tap? It looked like the pressure on the cage from saunders hand/arm was helping until the ref moved Saunders hand and moraes got the tap.

No, you just watched a second rate 10th Planet trained BJJ guy fail to use the Rubberguard effectively. The end.
 
Well there's levels. Saunders isn't on Moraes' level. I hate to say that about a sherbro. Saunders had to keep the fight standing, he couldn't and Sergio overwhelmed him on the ground
 
Definitely something weird about it the way the ref moved him.

It looked like the ref’ had an effect for sure, probably a combination of repositioning the hand and Ben having to focus on giving the thumbs up, which led to the tap.

The ref’ should have asked verbally if he was okay before trying to shake his hand to see if he was unconscious, the hand was close to the cage but not grabbing it which also seemed to be a concern.

Hard to imagine he was going to survive the rest of the round as it was so deep but no way to say for sure.

Tough break for Saunders but no shame in the game, his first submission loss so it can only help him grow.
