So did Punk not bring in many PPV buys?

Read somewhere that 225 had a low buy rate. Which means:

1. The sport is dying, considering the epic card excluding Punk fight
2. Punk isn't a draw anymore.

With such a tarnished reputation he can't feel great about it. No WWE fan is going to want to see him. No UFC is going to want to see him. Hope he's not too depressed, but I can see him retiring and leading a pretty secluded life style from now onwards. Who would want to leave the house when the whole world thinks you're a joke and a meme.

lol

WWE fans don't give a shite about MMA.

Homie will still make bank there.

It means Colby’s cringe talk didn’t result to buys

<{hughesimpress}>

Can we be done with this CM Punk topic already?

It means Colby’s cringe talk didn’t result to buys

Based on what do you make this conclusion? Are the numbers finally in from one of the alternate universes in which Colby didn't run his mouth so we can draw a comparison between the amount of buys?

Wwe has never been about fighting, it’s about characters. No matter what happens in real life, if you are an appealing character you will be big to the wwe fan base. If you are not appealing, you show great feats of strength, ( Brock lesnar) wink wink. You get a mouthpiece. Wwe is all a show, so cm punk can come back. Rhonda is thriving there now.

WWE will take him back. They take everyone back. Hogan shit the bed many times, but they take him back.

I think the PPV model is also dying. Hard to tell how much a fighter on a card contributes to sales imo.

as expected

he isn't a huge draw
the guy was 0-1 and everyone knew he just sucked

I agree. 25 years ago we paid for music and porn to ridiculous sums. Eventually the internet changed that.

I'd argue, though, that it's not just the PPV model that's failing, but rather the cable TV model entirely. People are "cutting cable cords" in record numbers, and switching to an internet service only. It's only a matter of time before cable TV moves to some kind of online service. I don't buy UFC PPVs because I don't have and don't watch cable TV.

Now, the PPV model is also not working well, as people just aren't willing to shell out $70+ to buy an event -- not unless it is at the level of Mayweather, or for the UFC McGregor or GSP. The UFC should probably switch to free broadcasts on multiple media platforms for most of their events, and only sell PPV/onDemand for a select few STACKED cards each year. They'd make much more money that way.

And when I say stacked, I mean having a full 5 fight main card + 5 fight free TV prelim with only top 10-15 fighters & at least 2 anticipated title fights (no wMMA). For example, I'd say UFC 226 is the minimum level of stacked the UFC should have to offer a PPV event. Any less and they'd be better off running a free TV event.

Punk changed his gimmick to "Humble Phil" which is not what the UFC contracted. If I were them, I'd ask for a percentage of the funds they gave him back. Alternatively, have Punk do some make-goods on some of their various programs. Maybe start a reality show around Punk and Holly Holm living in a house together.

I’m surprised they expected good numbers at all to be honest.

-4 Years removed from WWE career
-Obliterated in his first fight by a nobody (at the time)
-Didn’t take another fight for 2 years

CM Punk was never going to be a Brock Lesnar. At least in Brock’s first fight with Mir, he looked to be dominating a former champion until getting caught in the submission. Punk got blown away In the first minute by a guy no one had even heard of in Mickey Gall, didn’t even look like he stood a chance. No one cared to see him in there again because he showed nothing that would make us think his 2nd fight would go any better.

Further proof Dana is a fucking idiot throwing that on the main card.

The sad thing is that he probably DID bring in a lot of buys... just to get to 250K.

Exactly, potential "WWE cross over fans" is just a myth. None of the WWE cats give a shit about MMA, they're two separate forms of entertainment.

Looking at Twitter after the event CM Punk was being talked about nearly as much as the main event. Im sure the event would have sold less without him but no way of knowing to what extent. Safe to say he didn't have the same impact as last time.

So 100kish without Punk. 3rd fight confirmed!

Hogan could still draw the old school fans.

Punk is irrelevant in both MMA and pro wrestling, exposed as a 170 pounder who has little athletic talent.
