There have been so many cases of talented fighters being trained by their dad or other childhood mentors, men who have no experience at the top level of the sport, but due to the talent of the fighter, have gotten them near or close to the top

Problem is they don't have the experience or knowledge to take their kid/fighter to the next level

BUT fight is so loyal to dad/trainer because of what they have done since birth, they won't leave them and dad/trainer wants his time in the limelight

Wonderboy is in that position. Been plenty of examples in boxing, Kelly Pavlik, Michael Katsidis etc,

Feinting and dancing around, countering and setting traps, all important skills but not the highest form of striking. The highest form of striking is intelligent agression where you take your opponent apart and don't get hit in return

Till and WB shut each other down. Both were too afraid to get countered and respected each other too much. I don't think WB is a boring figther overall, this was just that kind of fight. Shit happens.

Till won because of the knockdown. It was a draw until then, in my opinion.

Yeah, he totally held him back in kickboxing.
What a tricky dad: ruins his son's career, but only in MMA.

TS, can you please try to be less stupid?
Thank you

Finally someone who's moved on from the result and engaged with the real issue: how does this likeable and talented athlete evolve and stay relevant?

Even if he'd been gifted the verdict last night, this question would remain.

Say he's on steroids in a postfight interview, for no reason at all. That's how you get'em out of your hair.

You can't reward safe boring fighters. WB is in NO position to play the safe game. He's not champ, he's not fighting in his home town. He can't just edge the win and expect to get rewarded. Fuck that shit.

On first impressions I dont like his dad. Way too intense. I got the, 'Living my failed life thru someone else' vibe from him, as in he is living his life thru his son kind of like a second chance at becoming successful. As a result he plays it safe.
Also very poor sportsmanship shaking his head at the result and a very reluctant handshake with Till at the end, seemed bitter. WB needs to ditch the old man and find a new camp

Who would you suggest he uses as a coach?
WB and his dad have worked together successfully for years and are in tune with their game,
Maybe GGG should get rid of his dad too or Lomachenko
It’s not a case of parents living their lives through their kids,
If anyone thinks the dads don’t want the absolute best for their kids then you are delusional

He’s done great under his dad. Switching camps is not always a solution.

no one is saying his dad hasn't done great things and set a great foundation

But Wonderboy needs fresh eyes, new tricks and tactics to stay relevant

His dad can't bring that to the party

So even if he doesn't get rid of his dad, but brings in other supplementary coaches

You can't say his Dad is holding him back when he wen't 37-0 amateur then 20-0 professional kickboxing fights. If anything all this is evidence of is how different the sports are and that he simply doesn't have the right style for a top MMA fighter.

His dad got him to where he is. Is that who he trains with?

He's just that kind of fighter. You aren't going to change his I'm and out point fighting style now.

Are you completely incapable of delivering your opinion without insulting someone? Seems like all you do on here is look for people with a different opinion so you can tell them how stupid they are. I agree, his Dad isn't holding him back but you just come across as a complete loser and a waste of space in your posts. Chill the fuck out and try debating with someone without insulting them.

What bullshit.

WB was straight up not taking up the advice of his corner, being more more offensive, strike the body more and throw more combos ending with a headkick.

Wonderboy isn’t mean enough. He doesn’t have that lust for violence. His killer instinct is questionable. He’s a great striker with an unorthodox style. Good movement. Just not a fighter.

I would love for some of these Sherdoggers to get in the ring with Thompson and show him what real striking feels like.

What are you talking about?

Wonderboy has been going to several different gyms and is open about always looking for new training. His worked a lot with Firas Zahabi in TriStar for example
