Do gyms pay top tear fighters to train there or the other way around?

Does anyone know about the gym culture surrounding UFC fighters? Do they keep away from other fighters? Is food included? Do they kick everyone out of the gyms except the sparring partners? Do gyms have security to precent people from getting autographs

wtf is a top tear fighter?

generally fighters pay for training.. but they may pay for sparring partners if a fighter is training for a fight. they may also pay for a big name fighter to come by their gym for a day or a week and hold a seminar that the public will have to pay to get into.

im sure they make contributions .. they also attract new members who do pay ..

Pro fighters usually give the gym a percentage of their purse (money earned from fighting). I think 10% is standard but I’m not sure. I have heard of a bed or beds (in the back of the gym) being available for pro fighters who move to the area to train at a gym and need it. I’ve heard of one or two situations where a house with several rooms is owned by a gym and used for fighters to stay at while they are in town for camps. Some fighters make extra money by teaching classes. A lot used to bounce at clubs at night for cash.

And no, fighters don’t stay away from each other. Quite the opposite, all the pros train together. They usually try to stay within two weight classes of a sparring partner, but that’s not always the case as DC and Khabib spar often and so do Jones and Cerrone. They usually train during “pro training” time block which is usually early afternoon when all the regular Joe’s are working their 9-5 jobs. Back in the day when fighters had to work though they would usually train the latest session of the night when all regular joe classes had ended.

And gyms don’t need security. Their pros and trainers could easily take care of annoying fan. The big gyms like AKA, xtreme couture, etc. usually have a front desk right when you walk in, sometimes this is even blocked off with doors from the actual gym, so fans just can’t walk right in on fighters.

I wonder this myself. It's probably different for everyone. Didn't Dillashaw say something like he left Alpha Male for more money?

Yeah that’s kind of different though. That gym was owned by muscle pharm, so muscle pharm paid him money to train there. You would never see AKA or Jackson Wink pay a fighter, it’s the opposite, fighters pay them a percentage of the money earned.

Dillashaw has a unique situation where muscle pharm tried to pay pro fighters a salary to train at their gym and under their banner. 12-18 months later, they closed up shop.

As I understand it, most fighters pay to train at a gym. Additionally, they agree to give a percentage of their winnings to their coaches (I think I’ve heard 6-10%), and must hire training partners if they want someone at their disposal, or a specialist to mimic a particular style etc. they also must hire nutritionists, strength and conditioning coaches, sports psychologists, etc. some fighters have the money and other resources to afford all of these advantages, others are poor or just choose to keep things simple and train on the cheap.

the few exceptions might be GSP type fighters who can train at Tristar or Renzos, and the gym is happy for the publicity.

They all fucking pay, even Floyd pays his trainers. Nobody's paying you to fucking train you.

Depends, some big gyms don't need the publicity and the fighters come there just so they have access to other top sparring partners and coaches while others pay them so they attract people.

Example:

AKA you don't get payed to be there you pay.
That Denver squad with TJ he was payed to be there.
Rampage got a car + all camp expenses payed from such a gym at some point.
I imagine Tri Star and Jackson also didn't need to pay fighters to come there in fact the fighters fork over the cash for the top facility and group of people.

First thing to note just to get it out of the way is Jon Jones seems really obsessed with catching his teammates masturbating.

But the real topic is that I saw this vid of the Jackson-Wink dorm and I don't know how much of of the elite MMA gyms have the same set-up (almost 100 person gym), but I wonder how effective this is.

Are there any up and coming fighters you are aware of that thrive in this sort of environment? I am not saying it is ineffective, but I would tend to think that a smaller gym can be better for a fighter because the head coach(es) can focus on him/her more.

Besides, as far as the Jackson-Wink team goes, most of their prominent fighters got their skills from some place else. Another video below of the JW gym.

*In b4 "still way better than Edmond's gym".

Depends on the facility.

Pro's don't usually mixed with casuals.

Big gym camps can have some sort of set up for housing and food.

Depends on the purpose of the gym all pro oriented or just a few pros to honey dick members.

AKA is mixed you have pros and normal classes but when you enter training camp shit gets serious and you a proper custom camp with other pro fighters usually all scheduled around that time frame.

Some training areas can be private no random Joe bothering you etc..
