Its all in the fight game. If he wins, he will be a huge star. If he loses, people would still love to watch his match after that to see him losing again. Win-win situation .
Plus, a 'bad guy' image is truly needed in an entertainment sport filled with guys with huge respects for each other.

I wouldn't say genius. It's risky as far as sponsors go; he treads a fine line between offensive for views and outright offensive.
