Raquel Pennington just got a title shot based on a win back in November 2016.

This is not a rare case.

Woodley got a title shot in June 2016 based on a split decision he barely managed to scratch back in January 2015.

GSP got a title shot after being inactive for years.

Gustafsson will get a title shot, he last fought in May 2017, has 2 wins in the last 4 years.

Luke Rockhold got a title shot after sitting out for a year and then beating a lower-level guy, basically being 1-1 in 2 years before he got the title shot.

Fighters have now figured out that inactivity is better than risking a loss and getting derailed. Just get a good win and sit on it and wait until everyone else eliminates each other and you'll get a shot eventually. That's literally how it works in the UFC right now.

No wonder cards are shit when inactivity is rewarded.

Why are you ignoring all of the other variables in your examples?

Like what? There are no variables that justify such inactivity.

Back in the good old days Shogun fought 5 times a year.

Is that is what Weidman is doing? Hes asking for a title shot but hasnt fought in 7 months.

Like usada has got everyone by the balls and nobody wants to risk fighting several times a year lol

We need to bring up some good examples too. When TJ lost the belt in January 2016 he fougth 2 more times that year against dangerous opponents on undercards and won both fights. He was ready to go against Cody earlier in 2017 but Cody got his back injured and they did the TUF together so the fight was postponed to November 2017. Meanwhile TJ wanted to fight MM but MM ducked him.

Massive respect for TJ here.

You make an excellent point, but please change 'awarded' to 'rewarded'

Its semantics, but you're way sounds terrible.....

Ok English is not my first language so certain things might sound weird.

You do appreciate the irony of writing “you’re” instead of “your”in your critique?

It's not really UFCs choice...not many big name stars currently.

What the UFC should do is strip fighters of titles due to inactivity or instead of giving single fighters title shots create 8 men tournaments like they did in boxing recently with WBSS which proved to be a massive success. Tournaments create stars.
