Belts vs Trophies

Which do you prefer? I always thought the idea of a belt was a strange concept. Like it’s something you use to hold your pants up.
Trophies seem to be a one time thing while holding a belt is something that doesn’t last forever.
I definitely prefer a belt over a crown though. Because being good at fighting doesn’t make you a king.


Bonus points if someone could explain the history of how belts became the highest accolade in combat sports

Ribbons would be ideal

You win trophies and defend belts.

Like if they did a fighter of the year award that would be a trophy. Even like LHW of the first 200 UFC events would be a trophy cause you can’t lose it.

But being the champion means you have to defend so I’d say only trophies if you have tournaments.
