Both him and his team didn't study his opponent well. I mean, you're fighting a light heavyweight with significant reach advantage over you and who is tagging you constantly and what do you do? You keep it standing! You took him down with ease in the first round and had you done a light study on the guy you will know his weakness is ground game and submissions. It blows my mind how some fighters or their corners aren't smart enough to take the easy route into a victory, unbelievable!
This Curtis guy shouldn't be fighting at Welterweight. The size difference between him and Alves was HUGE

He was winning the round late into the 4th min, he should have shot a take down considering how easily he took him down to seal the round.

He lost because he's way the fuck past his prime after being a pro fighter for 17 years and battling injury after injury including a brain surgery in 2010

Knee injury in 2006, had to pull out of UFN 5
Has corrective brain surgery in 2010.
Back injury in 2012, had to pull out of UFC 149
Another back injury in 2013, had to pull out of UFN 26
Has a two year layoff from his fight in 2012 to his next fight in 2014
Knee injury in 2014, had to pull out of UFN 49
Broken rib in 2015, had to pull out of UFN 79

We're now in 2018. He just doesn't have it in him anymore.

Exactly! Takedowns were his route to an easy win

I get that but he could have at least tried a strategy that could lead him to the win instead of standing with a good striker who has a huge reach advantage over him

He would’ve won if he didn’t lose

Thats Cain level wow

Alves ain't no spring chicken, this fight was always going to be tough. Can't believe he made it out of the first, that was a win in itself.

He’s sure got toughness and desire.

I agree with what you mean but Alves is done.
He is done. He should retire before the UFC keeps feeding him to these dangerous newcomers
Imagine what Perry would have done to him had they fought when they were scheduled to do so

He took so much damage surviving that 1st round
