Does anyone here think WME / Dana was actually trying to pull a Rocky Balboa for Stipe by hyping Ngannou, to make him appears as the black Ivan Drago by all the talks of the UFC Performance Institute, hardest punch recorded, etc.?

Basically, the UFC tried to make Ngannou appeared as if he is a product of a "fight science lab," (Ivan Drago) whereas Stipe is a product of the "old school" training gym (Rocky Balboa):

Stipe is hard to market, so the UFC tried to turn him into Rocky Balboa, but they didn't get the climatic Rocky Balboa knockout ending.

... Instead, Stipe laid on Ngannou for a boring UD, lol!

It might as well be true cuz Dana is fucking smart as fuck

Ahh yea, lets waste millions promoting this monster KO artist, pay him 500k + PPV points and call him future HW champ just so Stipe could have a Rocky moment? <LikeReally5>

I'm sure if that was his intention he wouldn't have looked like he was sick while watching Francois get merked

Yes! He's a brilliant promoter.

Sometimes, he'll play the role of the "evil promoter" to help promote fighters by either trashing or dismissing them, but this actually works in their favor by generating sympathy, discourse and then interest. Most of the public never realize the underhanded artistry of Dana's marketing devices.

Wouldn't Rocky III be a better comparison? Francis is "Clubber Lang 5000"

That's exactly what happen. Francis was hyped to damn near cartoonish proportions leading up to the fight in the broadcast. It was uncharacteristically over the top

Dana was hoping for a Rocky Balboa ending. I think he would be ecstatic if Stipe got the KO.

No, Dana is just an idiotic, spiteful, autocratic, asshole.

That fight should have promoting the coronation of the UFC HW GOAT. Not hyping a one trick pony.

They actually could have done both, if they had done it right. And, nobody would look as stupid as Dana, Joe, Ngannou, his team, and the UFC Performance Institute, or whatever it’s called look right now. They failed in pretty much every way possible. What’s funnier than Ngannou training with the oxygen mask ? The guy has ZERO cardio. Ironic pic if I ever saw one.

And pissed off a good guy like Stipe at the same time. He’s pissed, and I hope he sticks the screws to that fat fuck. Dana needs to quit treating the UFC like it’s his own little toy. He devalued his biggest asset, throwing away all leverage at the same time. He’s getting blasted by fighters left, and right now. The public seems pretty much done with him.

Gone is the guy that turned it into a multi-billion dollar company. He’s flushing it down the toilet ever since the sale became imminent. It’s a complete joke now.

Any HS kid with a good head on his shoulders and a rudimentary sense of the nuances of combat sports could do a better job than Dana is right now.

If I was his boss he would have been fired for even suggesting letting Conor fight in that exhibition.

No Dana fucked the Stipe situation up. Just like the GSP situation, thd Bisping situation, the Conor situation, the Cyborg situation, the Tony/Khabib situation...

Do I really need to go on, because I can.

It’s a classic Dana tactic. If he wins then Dana has a mythical beast of a champion, if he loses then Stipe just beat a ford Escort

Nope

He overhypes fighters, to make a quick buck from those whom are easily excitable... knowing full well that the standards that he sets for these fighters are impossible to be lived up to, and hence will eventually fail: and fans turn on them.

If you'v read my posts, I call this Dana's "quick squeeze". Takes you for your last drop before tossing you aside.

If Ngannou won, great... he would have gotten to milk it a bit longer. Ngannou lost? No problem, he got to squeeze the man via hype for one main event. He'll find something new soon enough.

This has been a common Dana White play. More fans will eventually see through it, with time.
