1. At best, DC will never forgive himself for not living out his full potential. At worst, he'll be resentful towards himself and Cain.

2. Saying you don't wanna share a division with a buddy as if you know for sure what kind of outcomes are afoot is ridiculous. This is a crazy sport with a landscape that's constantly changing - quit pretending like it's stagnant or as if it's a girl you're both trying to date. For all you know, Cain comes back (no guarantee he gets an immediate title shot) and gets wrecked and is out again. Or wastes precious time and fails to come back at all. Or DC himself gets wrecked and sent back to LHW after the first try. Things can happen. Also, Eddie and Barboza ar teammates, Gus and Manuwa are teammates, Khabib and his 60 brothers and cousins are circling the same weight classes - it can all be worked out by just letting things happen and falling where they may.

3. JBJ's shadow looms large over LHW, but not at HW. Plenty of fighters have done their career defining work at a different weight class. The lack of weight cutting might also slow down DC's aging, and if you're angling for a trilogy with JBJ - that fresh coat of paint of a different weight class would help.

If DC isnt living up to his potential by your logic then same with JBJ or gustaffs , and sadly the ones that are natural HW's are undeniably the best LHWs atm. DC moving up would be just death to the division

He is admittedly in the final year of his career and has a chance to become 2-div champ. Cain is not active. Is DC scared?

It’s actually an interesting choice. Continue to co-main as lhw champ or main for hw title.

#1 reason

So Shogun can become the UFC LHW champion.

Not at all.

Cain is planning a comeback and is currently training.

Well, his first fight back probably won't be against Stipe and there's a 50/50 chance he'll get injured in training anyway. Why won't DC take the fight in May or so and then vacate in the unlikely event that he wins?

Thats def what dana wants too.

Absolutely not.

DC will get smashed by Stipe Miocic. Stipe is a clean boxer. He doesn't loop punch like so many overrated MMA strikers. He will jab DC to death, and KO him.

That walking forward style of DC, his reach disadvantage, and lack of head movement, will get him teed off by a really good clean striker.

Obviously, being Cain's friend causes DC massive bias.

As an outsider, going for the HW belt would be his best move.

Gus rematch would be a decent fight but he doesn't have a time table for a return.

The next top 10 LHW guys in the UFC are Glover and Shogun.

Cain is a very good fighter but I doubt he gets a title shot on return.

His last win was over Travis Browne almost a year ago.

Travis is 1-5 in his last 6 and would probably have been cut if he weren't tied to Honda.

Before that, it was a loss to Fabricio 3 years ago.

Before that, it was in 2013.

The UFC should keep Cain as far away from the title as possible until he can show consistency.

DC Stipe makes sense.

DC killed the speculation in the post-fight presser last night.

Said he has nothing for HW with Cain coming back.

OP, what you don't realize is some people value friendship and team mates more than selfish gain.
