I haven't seen it brought up too much but I kept hearing before the fight how quick and explosive Ngannou is and how fast he can counter and deliver one of his bombs - to me last night he looked slow, sloppy and uncoordinated. Even when he was most dangerous he still lost the 1st round to Stipe and didn't appear to have much to offer other then throwing a lunging punch and pray that it lands.

Even watching the Reem fight he didn't appear that he was quick on his feet and was all that explosive - you could see the knockout punch coming from a mile away since it was widely telegraphed and his foot speed didn't seem all that impressive, Overeem actually looked lighter on his feet where as Ngannou is very heavy footed and plods around. I don't know if it was watching him hit pads with that long haired dork trainer of his or what, but the guy isn't as quick and explosive as many made him out to be - I was expecting much more from him in the 1st round since I knew he was gonna gas afterwards, and he didn't look impressive at all

Pads don’t hit back.

Yeah I never got where the speed hype came from

Stipe was just more precise.

Lets be honest here, if you were on the Ngannou bandwagon you are probably just a filthy casual. He seems like a nice dude and all, but he beat a few has beens and a glass jawed reem and all of a sudden he's God mode?

He's just big. And weird dudes on this forum, AND Rogan get their jollies off on big dudes. It's a strange phenomenon.

Stipe has pretty slick underrated head movement. Good pulls as well.

i think it was the pad workouts honestly, as sad as that is to say

the guy never displayed he had fast food speed or anything like that, hes always been heavy on his feet and kinda moves uncoordinated because hes such a big guy and hes still green as fuck. reem looked faster then him and reem is a shell of himself, and ngannou was supposed to be some next level athlete or some nonsense

You mean you didn't think he looked like a one in a million human being with the power of a Ford Escort?

He looked fast to me in the 1st round then turned into walking dead lol

Stipe being able to weather the storm was huge.

Sherdoggers were convinced of this mythical speed after that shadowboxing video.

But little did they know, shadowboxing on the street is not the same as fighting in the cage. Silly rabbits.

Maybe he was afraid of the takedowns at 5 round fight? Probably nervous too.

Here's my take on Ngannue....the positives....he took some bombs, kept getting taken down...but never quit and managed to make it to a decision...The negatives...he's very very raw...doesn't have proper boxing technique or footwork...he often didn't step in with his punches and always seemed off balance...He lunged and hit air 90% of the time...While he isn't fast at all, with better boxing technique and if he shortens his punches up and stops winding up with them, he will be faster...He needs better patience and maybe work on his jab to set up his other punches....he's just a very raw dude..but he has a ton of power and strength, he now needs a good trainer to sharpen everything.

I have not been on the Ngannou bandwagon, but he’s a big heavy handed dude who has been KOing his opponents in the first round.

I’ll be the first to admit I had no idea how last night’s fight was going to go. Wasn’t surprised that Stipe beat him, wouldn’t have been surprised if Francis got another KO highlight either...

Would have been floored if Ngannou won by sub to be honest. And mildly surprised if Stipe won by sub since he really sticks to GnP.

He looked atrocious in every aspect. His boxing was a joke, his takedown defense was a joke, his ground game was non existent. He's literally a one trick pony. The fact that he lost the 1st round which is his best round is very telling

Not slow, just wild and swinging for the fences.

That Ford Escort comparison Dana made was so bizarre. How can you compare a punch to a vehicle collision?
