*Maia Vs Covington = Good wrestling > Top notch BJJ?*

Why did you make 2 threads about the same thing?

No. There was no BJJ utilized at all. It was Colby's TDD and shitty standup against Maia's horrible gas tank and equally shitty standup (except for the 1st round). Colby won.

If Colby's striking was at Maia's level [not even worse] then he would have lost because all of his focus would be split on blocking takedowns AND strikes whereas Maia could spam takedowns as well as strikes.

So it's his stand-up that won him the fight- his wrestling just enabled him to exploit that advantage.

Age was the deciding factor unfortunately. Mai couldn't put out the volume he would if he were also 29. His punches were much better.

On the one hand, yes if you have good enough wrestling chops to keep the fight on the feet, then what the hell is the BJJ guy gonna do?

Yup, this was really obvious. When Maia was fresh (round 1) he was outstriking Covington easily. But he's old, gassed out in the 2nd, thus couldn't keep up and then went to his bread and butter which didn't work on Covington.

There is a fine line between determination and stupidity. If you see your takedowns aren't working, stick with stand up. Some people dictate where a fight takes place and you have to be able to adjust. I come from a Judo background but I'm not likely to throw around a solid wrestler.
