So I got into a fight Saturday night while out drinking and having a good time. Or rather, on my way home biking.
No, that's not me. Just drunk fucks having a go. But I find my posts are often easier to get through when adding pictures.. yes I make long posts. But hey, they are usually interesting so suck it up.
Basically a drunken stumbling native dude (a common sight in Thunder Bay 24/7) came up to me as I was slowly riding away from the bar. He was walking dangerously close to my path, all while slurring "SMokes! SMokes" or something related to him getting my cigarettes. If you live here, you know that everywhere you go downtown almost every single native person (I'll be fair some crackhead white folks as well- I am 50% white/native myself btw) is constantly asking you for a smoke or smokes or loonies (1$ coins) or toonies (2$ coins) or anything. Typically you say either you have none or the one you are smoking is one of your last because if you were to give a smoke to every person that asked you you would have fuck all for yourself.
Anyways I'm telling the guy no, to fuck off from me and he gets more aggressive, stumbled in front of my bike and gripped the front wheel with both hands and locked it in place with his legs, stopping me in my tracks. NOW, he's saying, he wants the bike. I then throw an overhand right at his face and he stumbles at me throwing a few himself. Awkward as hell to fight while sitting on a bike, so needless to say he got a few good shots on me. I ended up falling off my bike, getting a big bump on the back of my head and took a few more shots from him while I was on the ground.
Now, I come from a family that more or less KNOWS how to fight. Which of course explains my interest in mma etc. but I can handle myself. When I got my wits back about me, I stood up and got into a proper boxing stance and let him have it. He realized that he picked the wrong guy and pretty quickly took off.
The point of this story is - for the relatively little damage that I took, say to somebody fighting in the UFC taking heavy shots from another pro fighter, FUCKED my face RIGHT UP. Now I'm not totally messed up, just swollen lip, eyebrow is puffy, bruises and the huge bump on my head but I feel like I look waaaay worse than what I took. I didn't really feel any pain at all, it stings a little when I drink pop but that's about it, yet I look FUCKED UP??
Why don't more dudes look like this?
Now, With some UFC Fighters taking dozens and dozens of harder shots than I took, how is it that so MANY of them come out looking fine? Yes, I realize that over time the next day it looks worse but right after this happened when I looked in the mirror I was pretty messed up. (obligatory: "you should see the other guy!.." No really I hit him pretty fucking hard.) There are some dudes that come out looking fucked up even in fights that they lose, GSP, Rory Mac. But for the most part they look totally OK.
Why do you guys think this is?
Is it because they've been hit so many times before that their faces just sort of get used to it?
It it the gloves?
Do they just not hit as hard as we think they do? (unlikely)
I don't know. what do you guys think? Also, tell some of your own stories where your face got all fucked up. I know mine has been quite a few times.
