Why has the HW division been so dead for years?

We still have top 10 guys from the pre-Fedor era like Mark Hunt, Overeem, and Werdum. This was not the case back in 2005! There were tons of awesome HW prospects. And MMA is even bigger now than it was back then. And it seems like the HWs back then were even more athletic than today.

Every other weight class has more top fighters. All new guys. You don't get guys that were at the top 5 years ago, let alone guys from 2000 - 2005! And guys at every weight class are younger and more physically fit than ever before.

Are there great HWs out there? Does the UFC just not have the best fighters anymore?
What's going on?

Cos Fedor is out of his prime.

Yeah, it IS kind of weird. Just doesn't seem to be very many big guys into martial arts. Ngannou may take shit over doe.

USADA may have played a part. Prior to it being around, we've had HW fights go off without any issues(translation : Both fighters juiced)....

But yeah...nowadays, it just doesn't have the same impact or interest it once did.

Not enough new blood at that weight limit so we'll keep seeing same guys over and over

It's no secret that the pay in the UFC is a joke especially for new faces who don't have 20k twitter followers. The big men seem to be aware of this and explore other career options.

Because big athletic guys can make way more money elsewhere ?

Cos that Redbook money is too much, they get scared at the sight of all that cash. Did u hear Dana got a new Lamborghini?

Fighting the big guys is hell. Everyone is killing themselves, cutting weight to fight smaller guys. All the HW prospects end up at LHW.

HW has ALWAYS sucked and been shallow. Also Hunt, werdum, and AO have improved drastically since their Pride days…you know improvements does happen????

Also everybody was using roids in pride, actually it was suggested…plus fixed fights, etc…

Hunt: 43, 69 fights, fighting since 1999
Werdum: 40, fighting since 2002
Overeem: 73 fights, fighting since 1999

These guys should all be shot and going out brutally to journeyman like Sakuraba every time he tries to fight.

Fedor is gone. Divisions are way more exciting when there's someone legendary at the top of it. Fan or not, you tune in just to see if they will win or finally lose.

Also Brock is gone. Overeem is chinny. Cain is perma-injured.

Also, the top guys are too good for the rest of the division. LHW has this problem too, where DC and Jones ragdoll almost everyone else, resulting in constant rematches.

And Gomi. Every time Gomi fights just lay down $10,000 on him losing in round one, easy money.

Anyone that believe Mark Hunt is an improved fighter at the age of 43 doesn't understand how the human body works.

Ask Hunt to attempt this today and he'd break his hip.

A fat humble russian & a WWE wrestler no longer dominating.

A supreme specimen Tyson Fury looking guy no longer king of UFC.

Because the UFC would rather manufacture stars than pay for them.

There are quite a few good HWs outside the UFC... they just won't pony up any money to pay for them.

They need to get guys like Vitaly Minakov, Blagoi Ivanov, Kharitonov, Caoi Alencar, etc. But they won't pay for any established HWs really.

He had zero grappling back then though, so he's a better mma fighter today. But not a better kickboxer as he was in his younger days.
