Was it Don Frye?

Vitor?

Frank Shamrock?

All those guys were skilled in various martial arts, but I think the first true complete fighter was BJ Penn. During his prime his striking was world class, takedown defence was world class and obviously his BJJ as well.

Fedor before he became a brawler

Emmanuel Yarbourough was equally inept in striking, wrestling, grappling, kickboxing, and cardio.

He was also physically a perfect sphere.

It doesn't get more well rounded than him.

Truly complete a rare. Require them to win sumbmission from top or bottom then ground and pound, standing KO, and by different types of strikes, also have a good takedown defense.

Frank Shamrock came to mind first when I saw the thread title.
