Jon's thanking and admiring DC came off really fake, and I couldn't figure out why he did it. I knew it was a PR move, but couldn't figure out their angle. I thought it might be to help get everyone to like him again after all the bullshit he had done. That seemed strange, because being a villain works good for selling fights - people will pay to watch hoping that you lose. Plus he had already pretty much embraced being hated.

Now we know it was PR to make him more likable before this test came back positive. They tried to soften us up to him so we would believe he had changed and the punishment he is about to get won't seem fair.

I don't think he knew.

I think he was trying to "win some fans", as Jackson always advised.
 
I'm a big DC fan and never liked Jon Jones.

But I think he was being genuine in that moment. It's not uncommon to see a winning fighter act unusually nice when they're running on an emotional high like that.
 
Like AS crying after that random ass fight with Diaz.
