The guy has put more effort than anyone else at LW (besides Conor) to promote himself.

This should be a message to the rest of the roster. Stop with the generic lazy ass "i'll fight anyone the UFC puts in front of me" response everytime you're getting some mic time.

Im not saying everyone should talk trash. Just say a name. The UFC-WME will 100% back you up.
 
He is a clown like McGregor, unfortunately being a clown is a must in the UFC actually to get Dana's approval and juicy contracts, sad times for the MMA world when the main organization is becoming a professional wrestling circus
 
No one knows Kevin Lee outside of Sherdog.
 
If Kevin Lee is a genius, then so is Kenny Florian.

Countless others have tried the same thing as Lee with different results. Its a crap shoot.

Guy has 11 UFC fights and only 25k Twitter followers. But its easy for him to get fights b/c his punches aren't dangerous at all. So its not a brain risk. His fight vs Iaquinta is hard to watch. Different levels.
 
Nobody know Kevin Lee he will rise to the top and fall down because of her mouth.

Nobody knows until the card happens, but it doesn't matter
But if he wins, he's a belt holder in the UFC, which means more money
He talks shit and gives soundbytes, so that means promotional muscle
He's reasonably exciting and finishes fights, and the UFC clearly likes him which means more views

Clearly a smart move to manuever himself into this position at 24 years old
And if he loses... he's 24 years old, he has 8-12 years left if he handles his body right

Since when did winning and being a good talker not working?

its prize fighting in general. Their value is determined by the amount of people who want to watch them fight, the masses go for guys who stand out. Want to see them win or lose regardless people are buying their fight. Its always been like that

You make a very good point. Fighters are asked extremely frequently who they want to call out next. And most of the time they have no answer. How can you have never thought of an answer to a question you will be predictably asked on national TV?

I agree with you that the need for trash talk is so over -emphasized, but most of these guys simply aren't putting any effort or thought into how they want their career to proceed. Guys like Lee go from top 15 level to fighting for an interim title so quickly for two reasons: they can fight, and they have a plan for their fighting career.

Fighting good and talking shit poorly while only being able to accumulate 25k twitter followers in 11 fights? Lee isn't dangerous. He can't KO anyone so its easy for him to get big fights. Look at how Al Iaquinta just embarrassed him.

This is a clumsy oversimplification of the principles in play. Plenty of guys who aren't clowns are admired by fans.
