No, GSP was never coming back to WW in Nov, it was an excuse. Their plan was to screw Maia over

That´s clear now, after GSP said they want him to fight Bisping AND defend his belt. No, they didn´t create a brand new contract for GSP based on Woodley's disappointing performance. It´s pretty clear now that this was their plan all along.

So, they forced Maia to take the Masvidal fight saying that he couldn´t just "sit out that long" waiting for a TS.... and than give him the TS 2 months later with only 1 month to prepare for a camp.... they said "oh, GSP might be fighting in November, so you either take this or you might have to wait a little longer".... which was a lie.

So many lies.... so much disrespect....

I don't think anybody denies that the UFC did anything possible to screw Maia out of a title-shot.

But well, at least the fight happened in the end.

After that shitty fight between him and tyrone I could really give a shit. He got it, didn't want it bad enough and lost. Get over it.

Given the adrenaline level of Maia vs Woodley, I'm more outraged that they allowed the fight to go forward than that they tried to put obstacles in its way.

[<diva2]but...
Why would Dana or Ari Gold lie to any of their fighters?

Anything possible would mean they just don't give him the title shot.

Johny Hendricks was the clear #1 contender, beating better ranked fighters than Maia did, and he was flat lining them dead. They gave Nick Diaz the title shot coming off a loss instead. Stop and think about that.

If the UFC didn't want Maia to get a title shot, he wouldn't have gotten it, period. For crying out loud Tony Ferguson is on a NINE FIGHT win streak in the deepest division in the sport and he hasn't been granted a title shot.

It's true Maia got rushed but it had nothing to do with being Maia, it had to do with the UFC generally pressuring fighters into their own timeline that suits the PPV model. They famously tried rushing GSP to fight sooner then he was prepared for, and he's one of the most marquee names in the sport.

Cody has repeatedly said he's not healthy yet but the UFC is pressuring him to fight sooner, and he refuses. This is just how the UFC does business.

Regarding TS, nobody really knows what was going on with GSP, but the only rule on the table is make money. If it looked like the Woodley fight would be a money maker, that would have been booked. As it goes, that fight stunk up the place and the Bisping fight is happening.

Maia has had 2 title chances, correct? One against Anderson and One against Tyron. He's a good fighter but he is not championship material. He fought to lose in both fights. No one wants to see that again. He will never get another shot, ever again.

Maiasexuals still crying about his loss, lmao. He was like 0/100 in TDAs. He was never taking Tyrone down with his floppy lunges. Get over it.

Correct. Maia is fantastic at jiu-jitsu but one style hasn't kept you at the top in decades.

Lol.

If there is a bigger plan then screwing Maia was not the goal but a side effect. And Maia got his shot afterall.

Do you honestly think a few more weeks of preparation would have given him a better chance? Because I don't.

They probably wanted to push GSP to fight for the WW title instead of allowing him to fight for the MW strap like he wants to. Woodley or Maia did not matter.

But after that horrible fight they said fuck it, lets use the window Whittakers injury gives us and not give Woodley a high profile fight.

Yes but Maia was screwed by not being able to prepare fully.

maia fucked himself over by being one dimensional and never doing anything significant against woodley. no one will ever give a shit about him again.

Wrong.

Most MMA fans cannot wait to see Maia apply and attempt his techniques again, he's special and rare, as for Woodley, what does he do that anyone wants to see? He's boring, not creative, not daring, and nobody remembers his fights. Tyron will be remembered for polarizing the MMA fans base and injecting racist memes into our conversations. That will be Tyron Woodley's legacy.

Maia will be celebrated and studied by MMA fans and competitors well after he retires.

They are rushing these fighters because they seemingly don't have a plan. "Hur durr, UFC xxx is in like a month! We still need two main card fights! Call xXxX try to make him fight! Hurry up! Hur Durr!"

Seems like the way its being run to me.

I don't want to see woodley any more than maia.
