Khabib offered Ferguson at 216, turned down in favour of 217

In an interview with RT.com, Khabib Nurmagomedov revealed that he is aiming to fight Tony Ferguson on November 4 in New York, this after turning down an offer to fight “El Cucuy” at UFC 216 on October 7.

“That’s the date I asked UFC for. First they offered me a fight on October 7 (UFC 216), but I couldn’t accept it. I want to prepare well and I don’t want to put my body at risk. I don’t want to make the same mistake and push my body. I had to take care of my health, something I’ve been doing in the last four months. And now I need at least 100 days of hard work to get back in fighting shape.

“Now I’m training at 100 percent capacity already. All my media activity is over and I’m going straight to Dagestan for a training camp for a month or a month and a half. Then I’ll go to train in the States for about two months, so I’ll be able to perform at the end of the fall. As I said earlier, we will repeat the same fight again with Tony Ferguson for the belt.”
 
The guy who dropped out now dictates when the fight takes place?
 
The guy cuts a bit of weight plus he's coming back from injuries so it's understandable tbh.. 216 to 217 isn't really a big deal

Khabib = Uncrowned Champ. Just wish it would happen. The disappointment with his last fight pull out was immense in me.
 
I'm worried where this places the LW unification belt situation. Conor going to have to sit on the side lines for awhile post may Mac if he intends to return to MMA.
 
Khabib is trying to make the fight and insure that he doesn't have health issues that leads to cancellation. I'm not seeing the issue here.

He is still trying to make the fight and he is being disciplined with his training and health.

The scheduling difference is less than a month. Book it and let Khabib heal and prepare properly.

He can fight Cowboy at LW if Lawler doesn't concuss him. Possibly Gay Cheese but I don't know if his name is big enough

It's crazy how backed up every division is lately due to all the picking and choosing. Dudes get hurt and then pull out, talk trash then delay again, when months turn into years for some fighters it's just ridiculous that they think they can still call the shots. Just prove you can stay healthy.
