They aren't all main-event talent, but they are all household names for MMA fans. No wonder their TV ratings and PPV numbers are in the toilet. And they are doing a horrible job at creating new stars. Most of these events are filled with no-names these days.

Retired in prime fighting-age:

Brock Lesnar
Ronda Rousey
George St-Pierre

Missing in action:

Nick Diaz
Nate Diaz
Lyoto Machida

Free-agent losses or firings:

Rory MacDonald
Gegard Mousasi
Ryan Bader
Ben Henderson
Rampage Jackson
Phil Davis
Josh Thomson
Chael Sonnen
Matt Mitrione
Jake Sheilds
Cheick Kongo

And they'll be losing Dana White soon too.

Stars don't like to fight for $2500 Reebok money; free hotdog brander or not.

Don't worry, my boy CoGaR gonna carry the torch soon enough.

Platinum Mike Perry will make it all good. He will be the biggest superstar the sport has ever seen.

Erick Silva is a future champ for sure. He's a hot young 21 year old prospect that many people haven't heard of yet.

Whyd you list the likes of Mitrione, Kongo, Thomson, Bader etc.. They never had star power. Also you forgot to mention UFCs biggest star that's about to be in the biggest sporting event arguably in history.

cant build stars when guys like you say they have events with no names

maybe if you watched you'd learn who they are and see if you like them

Lot of big names you listed. Would say it's a more generational thing as we are probably entering a new era of mma.

That's strange, because every person you mentioned headlined pay-per-views and/or television events.

Also you forgot to mention UFCs biggest star that's about to be in the biggest sporting event arguably in history.

Why would I mention him when this thread is about stars who left the UFC?

There will always be new stars, we just need more fights. Stop these coming out of retirement fights.

Not one of those free agents except Chael and Rampage were ever star power potential

This is the problem with a lot of mainstream sports fans. If there isn't a loud mouth or a gimmick or controversy they find it boring and don't tune in. In the US particularly, drama and charisma will usually sell 5 or 10 times more than excellent athletic performance alone. It is true that the new owners of the UFC have sort of bungled matchmaking but even if they do put on a fantastic card it won't get notice if there isn't a Brock or Ronda on the poster.

Garbrandt, Stipe, Holloway are on the cusp of stardom

Cynthia Calvillo will probably headline next then title shot

DC/Jones card should do good as well as the next time they fight

And Gaethje had a hell of a debut, he will break through with just one more performance like that
