Why do some people think p4p means solely an evaluation of skillset?

p4p means best fighter. It means who does the best against one opponent. It also means who would stand the best chance against multiple opponents. It means who can get rid of one opponent the quickest (finishing ability) and then go after the next one. It means who could do the best in a tournament style, multiple opponent per night match as well as regular, one-time match. It means who gets hit the least and simultaneously inflicts the most severe damage (the two are not mutually exclusive).
It means who can neutralize and opponents strengths but it also means having the balls and being good enough to fight an opponent at their own strength and still win.

It means being able to win despite being the smaller or less skilled fighter. It means not ducking anyone. It means not being afraid to get hit and showing a toughness that is elite. P4p means anytime, anywhere.

P4p best fighter is who can slay bodies, so to speak, in a bar, an alley, an octagon, a tournament, pride rules, unified rules, against fighters across disciplines and weigh classes if necessary. P4p is who has a strong chance against an opponent w a bat or a knife or against a much bigger fighter. Who can end a fight quick if they had to in an emergency or while being attacked by a mob. Also who gives us fans truly spectacular performances that can't be duplicated when the odds are against them.

There are other elements not mentioned, but you get the idea.

Not that every criteria has to be met, but p4p is who of a long list of fighters best represents fighting and meets as much criteria as possible.

So can we dispense with the limited, simplistic, convenient, in-a-bubble and juvenile so-called definitions of p4p

The things you mentioned are a part of your skillset.

Here's what P4P means and what it has meant forever in boxing, where the term comes from.

P4P is nothing more than a fan's way of picking a #1 fighter in the sport. We know who the #1 HW is and who the #1 MW is, etc, because it's the man who holds the world championship. There's no arguing it: the champion is the current #1, regardless of who you think would beat them.

The #1 P4P is simply a way for fans to further divide and rate fighters. We can't argue the champions, but we can argue who the best champion is. That's the #1 P4P. Who is the best of the champs? Who has the best resume? Who is the most skilled? Who has the strongest hold over their division? All these factors and more come into it.

That's all it is. Anyone who defines it any differently just doesn't understand the term. It's not necessarily a skills competition.

Not ducking, having enough intestinal fortitude to challenge oneself, winning on multiple spectrums, chin, punching power, daring, etc. is not a skillset. Technique is skillset. You can t train your chin; it's not a skill. But having A granite one is a major advantage.

Why do people evaluate P4P at all?
