Perhaps so, but it was a fight that Khabib was interested in as well. He mentioned Chiesa in a couple different interviews.

Anyway, to answer the thread question: No. He didn't. But on paper, he had a pretty good record - 14-2 - and was on a three fight win streak, so it would have looked like a nice win for Nurmagomedov regardless.
