Everybody thought he would steamroll Gus but Jon ended up taking a beating.

Whats your thoughts of the fight? What went different from this fight to all others Jons fights?

Jones fought someone good, his size, and Gus wasn't an old past his prime fighter or a middleweight ;););)

Jones fought someone with similar stature/reach as himself.

Nothing "went wrong", Gus is a tough son of a bitch TS...Jones also won the fight.

He was taking too many head shots. Gus has superb boxing and Jones had a tougher time utilizing his reach advantage.

He just faced a really good boxer with TDD

I don't remember it being much of a surprise even jones admitted gus was faster and had better boxing

Gus has never tested positive for drugs of abuse or PEDs or hurt pregnant women without remorse.

was probably high on coke and tired from railing hookers all night.

He didnt' train.

He didn't take Gus as a threat seriously.

Nothing went wrong. Jones isn't some ubeatable cheatcode. He can lose.

If he was fighting 3 times a year like youre supposed to he would have already lost by now. Easy to stay undefeated when you're always suspsnded

He fought a guy with the same height and reach.

Anyone who knows fighting knew that style fighter w/ that frame was gonna be his toughest challenge.

yup, was mainly the reach. same as conor when he fought nate.

one of the most frustrating fighters in the ufc to watch is stefan struve. guy has the king of all reaches, and does nothing with it. he could probably be a world beater if he designed a game around it.

Jones was supposed to take him down and finish him with ease. It wasn't 'just' Gus' size. Jones manhandled guys similar to him in size or bigger before, O'Brien, Vera, and Bonnar.

Gus is always moving around, has good defensive grappling and TDD, and fast hands. When factor in the reach, that's what makes it even more difficult, meaning Jones can be hit where he couldn't be hit before.

Doesn't mean Jones can't gameplan for him. Gus has a couple of flaws that can easily be exploided. Jones exploited one of them with the head kicks and Gus lackadaisical approach to blocking them. Gus also turns his head and darts away when he's pressured. And when he's tired, he's not quick with it, so may be caught. Gus' lead leg can be kicked repeatedly to lesson his movement.

If Jones can cut Gus off, avoid too much damage, and work in some elbows and punches from the clinch, he'll have great success since Gus is weak there. Jones landed some good elbows inside during their fast fight and Cormier punished Gus inside with uppercuts.

Gus has better boxing and footwork, couple with comparable height and reach.
