I already know what you're gonna say. Only Heavyweights could fight in the UFC; We won't get exciting fighters like Conor; There would only be one champion; Weight classes are good because they allow us to see the skill difference between fighters and not just the size difference. etc etc etc.
Weight classes are a silly little game fighters play. It's insane that one day before they are going to test the physical limits of their body, they are literally starving and dehydrating their bodies a few pounds from death. They should be relaxing and drinking as much water as they can and feeding themselves properly to optimize their bodies performance. Instead you have fighters that were using IV's to rehydrate, drawing blood to lose the last few pounds. For christ sake Conor at 145 looked like a holocaust survivor on the scale.
In open weight classes the heaviest guys rarely are the best. There is a point of diminishing returns when it comes to size. Look at Fedor, could have been a Light Heavy or Middle Weight if he really wanted to. Had no problem dominating people with 30+ pounds on him. Cain Velasquez, JDS, Stipe Miocic, Fabricio Werdum all weigh around 240lbs. Shit, Anthony Johnson was a welterweight that was struggling, he then goes up to Light Heavy and goes on a tear. Plenty more guys at Welter and Middle that could do the same thing.
This is the ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP, lets find out who the best fighter in the world is regardless of weight. Come in at what ever weight you feel best and lets find out who's the best.
I don't see anybody bitching about wanting to see a midget NBA, or weight classes in Football or Tennis. Sports are about advantages, size being one of them. Such a Joke having a champion at 125 135 145 and 155. Same fucking difference. Could you imagine a pro Tennis player losing a match, then announcing they are gonna change weight classes, start a new weight division, win a few matches, then suddenly are the best player that ever lived? That's exactly what Demetrius did, got his ass whooped at 135 then magically starts a new division for himself.
What's next, hamster weight at 115 when someone loses to MM? Then Atom weight at 105 when they lose to the hamster champion. Then sub-atomic weight at 95lbs when they lose to the atom weight champion?
TLDR: Weight classes are bullshit. Lets see who's the best fighter, not best at cutting weight and dodging competition. I'm expecting plenty of hate for this thread, so bring it.
