OK so some kid wrote a post about why does wrestling beat BJJ when all wrestling is is body slams. ugh. but it did send me down a 10 minute internet rabbit hole that eventually led me to this fun article about Judo coming to American in the 1910's. i thought it deserved it's own thread.

back then, pro wresting was actually a sport (don't get uppidy WWE fans, it doesn't legitimize your enjoyment of whatever the fuck it is you watch today), the Judo players having to wrestle because it paid more, and some of the results.

good shit. enjoy.

Here's legendary judoka Judo Joe Black competing in the squared circle.
interesting. at 4:40 announcer says "and Judo Joe don't have a fucking clue how to work, he's only had but 3 matches in his life". did he really just accidentally admit wrestling was works? way back in the 70's or 80's? also a bit surprised by the "fucking". was this originally on TV? (EDIT: ah it's just a coupel of podcast guys talking over the original show. never mind)

The footage is old but the commentary is recent. Jim Cornette is talking about this classic match many decades after it happened.

It's a hilarious clip because the guy is a nobody pretending to be a notable judoka and losing in a squash match. Not only his lack of ability to work and bump, but the original background has Bruno Sammartino talking about how judo doesn't work unless the opponent also is wearing "the cloth." Ah, the good ole ignorance days.
