If this fight never happens who benefits the most? The UFC and Mayweather both got a ton of free publicity. Also Conor gets punked by both, the company shows they can keep their fighters in check and Money Mayweather makes him look like a coward.

The whole thing is a Circus Vargas freakshow to begin with.

But controversy sells, unfortunately.

What if Ashton Kutcher comes out and says "You've been punked".

Floyd and the UFC stand to make millions off of Mcgregor and his popularity. Nobody is taking this fight serious. Cake walk for Mayweather if it even happens.

Mayweather doesn't make any money from the publicity unless a fight happens. He is otherwise retired and there are no needed superfights left from his generation of fighters.

If Mayweather is "using" McGregor it isn't for anything other than a laugh. The UFC obviously stands to make a bunch of money, and benefits from the PR no matter what. Mickey Mack obviously also benefits from the PR. Actually, Mickey probably benefits a lot more if the fight almost happens than if it actually happens! He's the only one with anything to lose, after all.

How much money does the UFC really stand to make? if its a 100 million fight and the split is 60/40, that's 40 mil for McGregor and the UFC. So the rumor is the UFC wants 50% thats 20 mil a piece for Conor and the UFC. Is 20 mil worth boxing having bragging rights over the UFC?

Yeah the TS has to read bad news into everything for Conor. I don't see how the UFC embarrassing their biggest draw gets them much. It lowers his value and makes it more likely that he will simply walk away. The man is largely responsible for about half their revenue over the last couple of years. The benefits of teaching everyone a lesson are lower than the benefits of getting behind this fight.

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure they wish he would just stay on the reservation so they could milk him for all he's worth. I'm sure their first reaction is to not like this fight. Not only does this take control and much of the revenue stream out of their hands but if he loses badly, which is likely, it does set him back in terms of draw. People will put less emphasis on the fact that it was another sport and more on the fact that Floyd schooled him, for awhile.

The flip side however is an even bigger loss if they stand in the way of his fool errand. Not only do they lose out on their cut of the fight, but they create other problems for themselves. There is Conor sitting out for an extended period either because he wants to keep pursuing his dream or as a big fuck you to the people who blocked it. There is also a chance of a lawsuit which wouldn't be a problem normally because of their deep pockets and shark legal team, but because it could burn down the whole house by helping the people pushing to apply the Muhammed Ali act to MMA.

No, the best of a bad situation is to get behind what he's doing and make as much off it as they can. Then push him hard to come back and fight for them.
