I know this is a really weird topic, but I am actually trying to contribute something to the forum in general, as well as to the whole "Conor's power won't translate to boxing" conversation everyone is having (even though I am no conor fan, and I think Floyd wins a boxing match pretty easy).
The difference between mma and boxing gloves really doesn't make any difference in terms of power. The covering over the knuckles is actually the same in terms of thickness. The extra weight in the boxing gloves comes from all the other padding of the hand and fingers. So the differences in gloves is not power, but instead that boxing gloves reduce the likelihood of cuts. They also provide a bigger defensive shield obviously. In fact, if you press your glove against your chin faced outward, you have DOUBLE PADDING to absorb shots (the padding of both the back and front of the hand), which is significant.
Now, what does make a difference for the purposes of power is the shoes. Boxers wear shoes which provide a better grip/contact to the ground. This extra grip translates to more power. Why? Well, Physics. Imagine you were pushing a stalled car. With a better foothold, you can apply more force. It's the same in boxing. The shoes actually allow bigger shots. So Conor will likely have MORE power in a boxing match, but FAR more difficulty landing given the larger size of the gloves. Floyd is obviously also INSANE at defence...
TLDNR: Boxing gloves don't reduce power, they just give a bigger defensive shield. Shoes provide a significant increase in power.
