People are so hung up on title defenses that they often fail to look at the big picture.

Some things are a bigger feat than a title defense such as moving up a weight class and exploring uncharted territory.

Often times defending a title just means challenging a lesser opponent than the previous which is what Aldo had been doing over and over.

Exactly.

Who defends titles? Literally every single run of the mill champion ever. What's so special or impressive about that?

Why should a special individual like McGOAT lower himself to the level of a generic champion and concern himself with the trifles of title defenses which literally every generic champion does?

Did Ali waste time defending generic titles when he was making a stand against the war? No, he refused the draft and sat out for years during his athletic prime, a move that pundits at the time considered career suicide. But guess what? It only adds to his legacy and legendary status.

All these cheeto fingered plebians who can't shake conventional thinking and bitching about what Conor is doing, in 30 years you will realize what a legendary fighter he truly is - if the big macs haven't killed you by then. Until then please feel free to hold bitterness deep in your bum souls.

When you can KO a 'P4P champ' in 13 seconds....

You really fuck da game up.

I'm not saying Conor doesn't beat Aldo again if they were to ever rematch but, the idea that a quick 13 second ko proves anything conclusively is ludicrous until we see a rematch imo

Nothing to discuss you're an idiot, he needz to vacate his belt and go back to picking daises, Champs take on who's next...

Conor had fought at LW before. His very first pro mma bout was at LW, if I'm not mistaken. Not uncharted waters (unless you're specifically talking about the UFC LW division). Even then, he jumped the line off the strength of his drawing power and FW belt. A "superfight" between two guys that just won their belts, neither having defended yet.

It's not enough to show that you can take something from someone. You also have to show that you can keep other people from taking that something from you.

Defending titles is meaningless.

That's why Anderson, GSP, and Fedor are the worst fighters EVER, in my opinion

Except when GSP dodges Anderson at MW then challenges Bisping.

THATS horseshit. Lol

Its funny nuthuggers consider him GOAT basically off the strength of 2 fights, 2 fights where the champ had the balls to defend their titles against him

Wow, you just compared Conner refusing to defend his title to Ali refusing to fight in Vietnam, such striking similarities

It's not enough to show that you can take something from someone. You also have to be able to show that you can keep other people from taking it from you.

The current FW number 1 contender is Holloway and Conor has already defeated him.

Im not with saying a rematch against Holloway or Aldo is meaningless, however, moving up a weight class to challenge Alvarez who had just blitzed through RDA is not exactly the easiest path.

Acquiring belts > Defending them
Beating champions > Beating contenders.
