I know, I'm looking very far ahead, and these fights have to happen, but it's interesting to think about...
If Conor doesn't come back this year, either because of the negotiation hold up, or because he signs to fight Floyd, then what's next at Lightweight and Featherweight?
Ferguson vs Khabib is next week
Holloway vs Aldo is in June
Hopefully they all make it through their camps (Aldo, as always, is the biggest liability IMO), and the fights actually happen. Assuming the fights don't see a controversial result, necessitating rematches, then who is next for the winners?
I can't see many contenders in either division. There's some good prospects, but little in the way of title challengers. Who'd be your pick in each division?
I doubt they could get Nate Diaz to come back to fight Cucuy or Khabib. Alternatively there's Jorge Masvidal or Edson Barboza. Or there's the out-of-left-field option of Georges St-Pierre.
Korean Zombie or Yair Rodriguez would be my pick at Featherweight. Or if Cody Garbrandt beats Dillashaw decisively, there's a possible champ vs champ superfight.
Or how about the winners of each fight (my picks are Ferguson and Holloway) just face each other in their own superfight?
