Why does Stephen Thompson stands inside the pocket but doesn't punch?

I have never seen that before. What style of karate is that and what is the advantage of not trying to hurt your opponent?
 
He's a point karate champion. It's kenpo I believe (I know his dad is a Kenpo black belt)

Also it seems Thompson gets destroyed if he hangs in the pocket too long.
 
he must be same kind of decrypted phenomenon like Machida once was, once figured out - no longer a threat
 
He has no boxing ability. He has great kicks that he uses to win on points. Yes he has KOs with them, but hes not a puncher at all. Would actually do him wonders to work with a great boxing coach for a while.
 
Yeah, lets ignore the guys he knocked out.

He failed to KO Woodley and Rory so he is obviously a point fighter.
 
He outboxed Rory Mac, Coté and Whittaker, who are good boxers.
The guy can punch.
