Its kinda unrealistic to ban someone from grabbing the cage in a fight, dont u think?

Wouldn't fights be more exciting if it were allowed? More scrambles, less standups, more crazy moves using the cage, more striking because guys arent scared to death to get taken down.

Thoughts?

no... watch some early UFC fights and you'll quickly see why it won't make fights more exciting

Fair enough. Seen every event from 2010 but almost none before.

Dunno if skill level has advanced to a point where the two eras arent comparable though

Because otherwise nobody would ever be taken down.

jk... im exagerating a bit.

But come on TS, regardeless it just looks terrible. Thank god its not allowed, for that alone.

Cuz you can't grab a cage on the street son! This is spose to be like real life but with rules and media coverage.

Fair chance of severely fucking your hands up as well, you reach for the cage as your falling backwards with someone like Derrick Lewis locked on you and you're gonna find it harder to count to ten from that point onward.

there's also the safety thing, if you have two fighters falling or being pulled away from the cage and a finger or two are in the cage that could result in some pretty bad finger injuries, which don't always end fights but could cause longer injury layoffs.

Might as well make it legal, we all know they dont enforce this rule anyways

I think the rule came into play in the event after that fight iirc. I remember tank holding him there forever and shooting snot rockets on that guys shoulder. Twas cringey.

Throwing an opponent out of the ring should also be an automatic win like in Soul Calibur not a DQ.

would've been better for sokoudjou's health if that was the rule here... or if he had any ref but yuji shimada

because you touch yourself at night, TS.

It's also kind of unrealistic to ban someone from kicking or kneeing a downed opponent, striking the groin, eye poking, pull pants, striking to the back of the head, biting, spitting etc. etc. etc.

don't forget about people stopping takedowns the wrong way and breaking/dislocating a limb. gotta be drilled during training

Thats a good question and I asked that many times myself. You would think if two fighters FIGHT IN A CAGE theyd be able to use that cage to their advantage in any way possible. Otherwise really why do we need a cage? Its cool, sure...but a ring gives you much more space to move around and would eliminate lots of stalling when a fighter just holds a guy against the cage. I realize this is a strategy, but if you cant use the cage by grabbing it, then why can you use it to hold a fighter in place.
