Masvidal was on joey Diaz podcast last night and had some good points about the whole roster wanting to fight mcgregor, just to earn some money, I agree mcgregor has a big bullseye on his back, from khabib, may weather, Diaz, ferguson, aldo and woodley

Conor is smart about running away from Khabib.
Khabib is a nightmare match-up, stylistically

Watched that video earlier - seemed to be more about the host waffling on about his days coming up as a comedian.

I didn't watch, but I don't see why any fighter wouldn't want a Conor payday. Who doesn't like money? Anyone who says they don't care about that payday is just being a hard ass

Meanwhile, last month:

That's Conor's reward for being the biggest draw in UFC history.

Instead of asking for a money fight, why don't you be a money fight?

A money fight just means a fight that everyone wants to see. Guaranteed to sell a tonne of PPVs, huge gate, therefore huge revenue and huge purse.

So instead of trying to latch on to someone else's popularity, why not try to be a draw yourself? Be a guy who everybody wants to watch. That gives you the leverage to negotiate a better deal. Go promote yourself, hype shit up. Put an effort into it, because for sure McGregor actively works on his promotion. Give fans a reason to care about you. If im a casual fan and im watching this video of Masvidal talking to a fat guy, there's nothing there that makes him stand out. He's not even trying to be interesting or compelling.

Before promoting yourself you have to put on exciting performances, you have to go out there and look for the KO, but nobody wants to do that because it's risky.

tried to listent o the video and its mostly joey diaz rambling... where is hte part where Jorge talks

Yeah I was actually excited when this podcast came out because Masvidal has a really interesting story, but then the podcast is just Joey mumbling his bullshit while extremely high, seemingly forever. And also talking to some creepy voiced sidekick about gambling endlessly. Had to turn it off

Cause you can't become popular just because you want to. Is about who people that pay the tickets get behind.

They rejected most of these fighters Already. some trash talk and come off as disrespectful or cringe, some change their hair and they're not original cause Conor did it first. not every fighter is free to try and get himself more notoriety by doing what he did cause people will not like that.

Rousey didn't made herself popular, people got behind her cause at first she looked like a pretty faced that could kick ass. Brock looked like a white boy wet dream, big bad and strong. People get behind that. They like Conor too for whatever reason, other fighters could have done EVERYTHING he did BEFORE him, nobody would care.

Also a casual fan, often is familiar with the bullshit that either hollywood or american entertainment business throw at them, which is fake and scripted shit like WWE. Not every UFC fighter will be cutting promos like The Rock, although the "casual" fan is closer to the type of fan that enjoy these things. Which is why people say Conor turns MMA into WWE, these fans want entertainment, not a badass motherfucker that kicks ass and respects his opponents, if they did, Maia would be a millionaire.

Is about who the american casual fan (the bigger demographic and the one that gets your rich) wants. Is like trying to sell "black people stuff" to "white people stuff". They don't buy it, they want white people stuff.

Says who? Promotion is a skill like any other. It can be studied and practiced.

Sonnen is a good example. He was not an natural showman, he was a bland undercard fighter. Overnight he seemed to put a lot more effort into his promotion and became one of the best paid in the business. To an extent he became the money fight.

Cruz is another example. Guess what he did during his injury downtime? He couldn't train so he excercised his brain. He thought a lot about how to promote himself better. The Cruz that came back is much more charismatic.

Well said.

Conor has the advantage of having Irish people buying tickets to his fights - it's just in our sporting culture to support our teams/fighters or whatever the sport, to jump on a bandwagon a lot of the time and travel to events. A big part is because they are few and far in between.

But even if you don't watch MMA that much, a fighter who is predominantly a striker will appeal to folk who might've watched the big Boxing fights in the past - and even if you're not much of a fan of combat sports, everyone enjoys a KO.

Masvidal seems to do a lot of his 'talking' on social media and when he does talk in public, he doesn't have that personality that draws people in the way Conor does or a Sonnen - that mixture of you either like them or hate them/want to see them win or lose - the social media hash tagging, lingo just doesn't translate up on a dais.

But like any sport, the main thing is winning. Talk is one thing, but if you're not backing it up with wins, it means nothing

Rejected fighters like who?

Dana made an interesting comment about Conor saying the UFC made him - I think there's some truth in that, but I think they gave him more of a platform than making him. He has to go to the gym and do the behind the scenes stuff we don't see and at the start when he first came in to the UFC, he was promoting himself, too.

Rousey didn't made herself popular, people got behind her cause at first she looked like a pretty faced that could kick ass. Brock looked like a white boy wet dream, big bad and strong. People get behind that.

I always had the feeling that Rousey appealed to young teenage girls for the most part. She comes across as confident and secure in herself - though the way things played out, I'm not sure if that's the case - but that's a different topic on whether she was or wasn't.

He has that nice left hook.
If Khabib is not retarded, he'll take Conor down, straight away
It's the straight that khabib needs to avoid, a hook is much easier to duck under while shooting or interrupt mid rotation with a shot. Also McGregor doesnt throw hooks with his left very often, it's almost always a cross.
