He was a big guy for 170 at his time, he was strong, he was fast, he was the most explosive guy in the entire division.. He should have been able to KO guys but his hands were pillows. With his physical abilities and talent, he should have been a 1-punch KO machine.

What was he missing?

Because he didn't want to risk breaking his hand. He had dinosaur porn to masturbate to after fights.

Counter right hook would have KOd many WWs, but not Fitch.

He was more cautious than a man making love to a woman wearing two condoms

I'm watching his fights and he throws arm punches with terrible technique like Jon Jones does.

It's embarrassing to see this shit at the highest levels in the sport.

Is this common in Greg Jackson trained fighters? And isn't GSP supposed to have great technical striking?

He pulled his punches because he was scared/cautious of overextending and leaving himself open for the KO. He focused more on keeping his punches tight and technical and doing just enough to win.

He didn't sit down on them. Distracting jabs to set up his laydowns.

^ ^ ^ If what I'm watching in that gif is prime GSP, the division today has moved way past him. He'll get annihilated if he comes back striking like that. Like 1st round KOd every fight.

I mean, that wasn't a total arm punch. You see a lot worse in mma.

He fought on his tippy toes. He was more worried about taking damage than committing and inflicting damage.

He spent all training camp drilling double legs and guard passes, thousands of reps a week of drilling plus sparring.

No time to work on your hands after that.

I'm not sure why you posted that Gif as it doesn't fit with what you said but that was much more of a case of a guy being knocked over than having his nervous system being short circuited.

Unless he forgot how to take people down, I think he still can become champ again. Don't underestimate the WW GOAT.

It wasnt that bad- he did effectively counter a leg kick to get alves down.

I seem to remember Hendricks knocking out this iron-jawed Fitch you speak of.

And NBK also knocked out Hardy -- something GSP couldn't do either.

His striking is awkward. When you see him hitting pads it looks kinda stiff and akwward. Some people just "get it" and some don't. Shane Carwin was some beefed up bodybuilding engineer and he immediately figured otu how to hit hard. Some guys are just born punchers and some aren't

You probably shouldn't be criticizing his power, while showing a gif of him knocking a fighter down.

He's a full time gymnast now, he looks off his head with that Sage Northcutt shit.

I wouldn't be surprised if his takedowns and top game now suck.
